Hi, I am looking for some ideas for promotions for CityPics I maybe havent though of yet. As it is a non-profit site preferable free of course. So far I used (un)targetted visitors campaigns link exchanges signature links a press release communities like digg, stumbleupon, delicious Something I encountered some times are promotions via blogs. Does this really work? Why should someone promote a foreign site over his blog? How would someone approach this best? Thanks!
Not a promotion idea but to help get more traffic you can do some basic SEO. Take the page http://www.citypics.org/picture.php?id=20 for example. If the location of that picture was in the <title> tags, an <h1> tag, and URL if you can mod_rewrite you would do much better in the search engines. Also a paragraph explaining the picture would be very helpfull.
Thanks. How does the blog promotion actually work? I always thought it would be a kind of a voluntary review by the blog owner if he/she likes the site. How does one usually get blog owners to write about a site? Thanks for the hint Aaron. I just implemented the title and h1 modifications and can hardly believe I forgot about the title (the gallery's page actually uses it).
Not a promotional tip, but... You may want to change where you put your adsense ads if your Google adsense rep will allow you. I like your concept - but I would take that orange adsense banner out of the top area. It takes away from the "professional look" of the site. What I would do is then turn the adsense ads vertical and put it either on the right or the left of your picture area. I would make it white bg and surround it by that dotted line motif you have going already around your photo area, but Google may tell you that you have to make something else to visually seperate it from the pictures next to it. Just a thought.
Thanks PurplePeeps, I am however really in the need of promotional ideas and suggestions. Anything I didnt think of yet?
I've done blog promotion for some of the largest travel and non travel companies on the net, including Skype, MapQuest etc. All of these companies have paid for blog promotion, and have continued to work with me, because blog promotion generates traffic, and helps search engine optimisation through targeted keyword links. Finding the right blog to promote your service or product on though isn't easy, as many blogs don't generate the type of traffic your looking from for advertising, and bloggers loose interest and don't keep up to date with their blog. So in short - blog promotion does work.
Thanks Darren. So promotion via blogs is always a paid transaction? How are blog owners usually approached? What would/should they write? What are the rates for this? You mean regular banner promotion? Thanks everyone, still looking for other suggestions and further comments about blog promotion.
Hi neroux, My site may be able to help (AddAnImage.com). You can get backlinks by posting an image link. It's free and you can post as many times as long as the images are different. If I haven't got a category that you'd like to post into then let me know and I'll create it for you. Good luck! p.
You can get blog owners to write a review for your site. Will be paid though... Aaron nimocks also has a list of stuff you can do to get blog links. Linkbating I guess... Bye
