The Rock is all right by me. I'm not sure anybody takes him too terribly seriously being a former WWE star. What's with these former wrestlers turning to movie careers anyway? I wish Eddie Guerrero was still around, as he could've been a great star in my opinion.
You cannot say Tom Hanks is overrated!! He's got such a wide variety of acting performances such as comedy, drama, romantic and action. He's done it all and although not all movies have been a success, he has been successful with the majority of his performances. People don't realise that some big names turned down Forest Gump, Hanks done it, nailed it and turned the film into a blockbuster. The most overrated actor for me, in movies, has to be George Clooney. He's lived an acting life based on his looks and a moderate acting ability. His roles are never varied yet he's considered a big name. You cannot say the same about Mr Hanks with his variety of performances over decades. Just watch Sully, Forest Gump, Philidelphia, Terminal and Da Vinci Code to see the different ways that man can portray himself.
That's a small part of it; if I were to not watch a movie or listen to a song because of the performer's political stupidity, it would be a small and bleak list of things to enjoy. With Hanks, it is also about the roles, I suppose. None of the above-mentioned movies were of interest to me, so I never saw them. Therefore, in my opinion, Hanks is over-rated because I rarely, if ever, see him in a movie.
But if you don't actively try and watch some of his movies you will never see him. To be fair to one of the best actors in a generation you should watch a few.
Unfortunately, "fairness" does not factor into my entertainment pursuits. I watch or listen to what I want when I want. Otherwise, it would be more like work. Another actress like that is Meryl Streep. She us supposedly the best of the best, but the movies she makes do not seem to interest me at all. Ergo, she is way over-rated IMO.
