I know .com is the best but what about the others?

Hello, I know .com are well known and to me are the best. But, what about the other extensions say for example; .club .site .us there is a lot out there I know I own few of them. I also, recently got .review domain. Can we still see great potential from these domain names I know the .com as much more weight to them but can the others work out?

I'd rather go with .org or .net. Unless you have a cool name like: my.site or dance.club, I don't know how any of those extensions would make a domain name more valuable.

Very true, but also what do you think about the .review like example could be gaming.review and software.review...

I personally think that (considering the growing number of extensions) the ultimate ability of your site to draw the attention of the search engines will depend on your keyword selection and the value of your content.

Pretty much like it does now.

.com, .net and .org are the top level Tlds. Go for them first. If these are not available, then go for .info and others.

Correct, but I think it's not enough. I've seen many quality sites with benefits to readers but I didn't remember their names because it's long and hard to remember with strange extension. So I think the extension is a value factor to users.

According to me, you should opt the Top Level Domains rather than country-specific or other domains. Because .com, .net. org are well-known domains and trustworthy for the users. If you are using .us, .in or .fr so, these domains are good for the local users to earn their trust but .us domain website does not earn the trust of Indian users easily.

That's a good point daica85. The domain title must be memorable to people looking for subject related content. And certain extensions are still highly popular I think because they've been around for so long.

I don't think it makes much difference to the search engines though. As long as the site content strongly relates to the information that their customer is looking for.

I'm not sure I understand what your point is. How are you defining "Top Level Domains" here?

    Hi Joe
Top Level Domains are already known by almost every people but the domains like .review, .site etc, not every people are friendly with them and most of the time they leave the site without making any conversion. Because top level domains already earned the trust of the users so I said that.

This is a good one. I don't see any reason for you to pay a few times extra for a top level domain, if you are not a world-wide known brand that really may have extra profit from it.

Who knows, maybe in long-term period .review or any other domain will become very popular as well, but honestly a lot of people don't even care what domain to visit, until it is not something like "kgsdfasdg.gssdfg"

I understand what a top level domain is. I just think that you aren't using it correctly here. Your words suggest that .review is not a top level domain. However, if you visit http://data.iana.org/TLD/tlds-alpha-by-domain.txt you'll find it on the list of top level domains. A top level domain is not defined as that extension that is already known by most people. If you do a search for "top level domain definition" you'll see what I mean.

I got your point now. If we want to target the multiple countries than gTLD (generic Top Level Domain) is the best option and if just want to target the particular country than ccTLD (country-code Top Level Domain) is the best option. There are many websites that are performing well with the ccTLD.
And, sorry, I do not explain it well or in an understanding way.

Thanks for the clarification. So looking at your first post and taking this one (19537211) into consideration I gather that you recommend choosing the gTLD domain before any other if one has that opportunity?

I did a research a while ago to see how domains with exotic TLD's rank in competitive niches (casinos, essays, viagra and etc).
    Here are some of results:

I'll leave the conclusions op to you. But you can see that most websites that rank in competitive niches go for .com or country extension

I think there's no arguing that com is the highest ranked. I believe it's because that's the extension most often thought of when people think extension. I wouldn't have expected to see ca rank so high. I would expect the country extension to have noticeable rank within its given country though.

Absolutely. Correlation and causation. That's why I said conclusions are up to you folks.
I'm pretty sure whoever tries to rank in a competitive niche will go with .com so exotic tdl's arent there not because they're bad but because webmasters prefer .com
Plus most of the domains in top-100 are 3+ years old.

As for .ca I was also surprised. .co.uk was also up there in UK.
