It's all based on statistics. If married people stopped statistically having X amount of kids then the tax breaks would probably start to go away. Married people get better insurance rates, too. The reason being that statistically married people are more careful drivers due to being more responsible. Married people tend to have kids in the car which encourages better driving habits. That and it's typically the mature people that get married and mature people drive better.

The real test is that rights and freedoms assigned to one group ought not to limit or diminish the rights and freedoms of other groups. Denying homosexuals the right to marry does not pass that test. Giving them the right and freedom to marry does pass that test -- because it does not diminish the right and freedom of others to marry. Some try to assert that that diminishes their right to live in a society where such things are not allowed. But, that is not a right or a freedom because it fails the test. It diminishes the rights and freedoms of another group. However, one cannot deny someone the right or freedom to think it.
