Is it legal to collect YouTube movies and public TV links in an Android app?

    Hello,

I'm thinking about building a mobile app for TV channels and movies, but I'm not sure if it is legal to collect YouTube movies (Hollywood movies) which are uploaded by youtube users and public TV streaming links in an Android app? I will not host or upload or share any content.

If it is not legal, what other options do I have to get movies and TV channels, I don't have a big budget anyway.

    Than you

Is it legal moving a home that is not yours to your property
    for your own personal use?

it also depends if you really want to look over your shoulder all the time, however,
someone that has a high traffic site involved in illegal movie distribution has a much
higher chance of getting punished then you....

It is always a gamble taking something that is not yours.

however, I could be wrong, in that case, then go read up
on the terms of service on youtube and other sites that
you want to take movies from, and see what the terms say....

    Thank you

As much as I know, it is legal as long as I don't upload anything, just organize and playing

Hmmm.... lets ask some of the people from sites such as Pirate Bay or others that just "organize" how well that is working out for them...

Not in the UK or United States, I don't know about other countries. People have gone to court for linking to movies/tv shows.

But why no one goes after YouTube or Dailymotion for sharing and playing copyrighted videos?

The former owners of various Torrent Sites would disagree with that from their jail cells

Copyrighted material is removed often from both of those services.

So, when I embed movies from YouTube or dailymotion in my app, would it be still illegal? Coz, if the video is copyrighted they will remove it and it will automatically be deleted from my app, I will not run a streaming server or a sharing server or something.

Embedding is one thing, supplying the video from your own server is something different. Are either illegal? No, but the second one could still be demanded to be taken down. Do you have to do so? I highly doubt it.

Just don't "change" the video or claim that it is your own work. That would be illegal.

No, all I want to do is to embed YouTube long movies shared by other people in my app. Those movies could be uploaded on YouTube illegally, but I don''t have a way to know this, it is Youtube job I think.

if your app is just lining to copyright videos, it would be fairly obvious you are part of the conspiracy

No, if I was seeking after illegal movies, I would not bother to ask. There are many movies on Youtube and I want to add them to my app, but I don't have a way to tell which one is legal or illegal. And I wanted to know if it is ok to use You-tube movies in app anyway or no.

Is there another source I could get movies from without getting in trouble, something like affiliation or revenue share where I will play the video and share any revenue with the owner? I don't have big budget to buy movies from Big studios, and I think they will never have a business with an individual anyway.

Only movies that are out of copyright or actually posted by the copyright owner for the viewers country are legal.

The rest just haven't been flagged yet.

Copyright expires, I think after 70 years, if not renewed.

Movie rights are owned by different people in different countries. Where your visitor is / where you are, would decide who has the rights.
