    hi,
I have a website which is considered duplicate contents by google. actully there are more than 200 posts copied exactlly from wikipedia and caused my website to rank low.
I read several articles and find out I must use rel="canonical" but I dont know how and where to use it.
this is what google says :

where should i put the links?
should I link to wikipedia ?
    I am using wordpress .

and one more question, my robots.txt is :
    User-agent: *
    Disallow:

sitemap links also included in robots.text

but I have a couple of my pages blocked.

could anyone help me to solve these issues ?

    thanks in advance

You are completely misunderstanding the use of the canonical tag. You use the tag to tell the search engines where the original version of the page appears when you have duplicate pages on your own site. It has nothing to do with avoiding duplicate content issues when you're scraping content from other sites.

I can help you with that...
    • provide content that offers value to visitors.
    • avoid using any type of duplicate content.
    • find authority backlinks
for the most part, easier said then done...

so you are saying copying from wikipedia is not considered plagiarism and spam by google and other search engines and the reason of ranking low is something else?

    Thank you

yes , I will consider these points definitely for the upcoming posts but now I need to know why my website ranks low if duplicate content is not the reason.bcz I dont have multiple pages with same contents in my web site, I also defined www.example.com form for google search console

That is NOT what he is saying. Read it again, and again, and again until you fully understand what he said.

I would remove all of the posts that are duplicates and start from scratch, which would be unfortunate if the whole purpose of your site rests upon providing copied material. Fighting the battle of your domain becoming disreputed could be too much so maybe, unless your site is still high ranking for some things, consider a fresh site built using content that does not break any Google rules. A new domain could be in order.

I think you should use the no-follow tag for this
But what is the need to copy 200 articles and paste in your site?

Don't panic and make a deep breath.)
If it is necessary to use articles from Wikipedia on your site just use nofollow/noindex 'cause canonical tag will not help you with these pages.
If they don't play some great role just remove them and hire experienced copywriter to make new unique and relevant content.
