How do I convert HTML from Notepad to IE?

Discussion in 'HTML & Website Design' started by Slandingo, Dec 18, 2006.

I have recently started taking an online course on HTML. I am trying to figure out how to make a website from scratch so to speak. I've pretty much done what the book says as far as entering my HTML into Notepad but that is as far as i have been able to get. Granted I am not by any means thru with the HTML course yet but I have finished the first few stages where the course states that I should be able to make a web page. What do I do next?
    Thank you,

You're already done. Just save it as something.html instead of something.txt and than open it in Firefox/Internet Explorer.

When saving it as html in notepad, make sure you put quotes around it. For example, "something.html". Otherwise, notepad will save it as something.html.txt which would still be a text file.

Instead of quotes, just set "Save as type: All files."

rename your extension name from .txt to .html

Note: make sure that if your saving your file the combo box is in "All files"

Save it as .txt, copy the file and rename the copy as .html - that way you have a copy of your txt file ;)

When you save it, click Save As, -> Select it from .txt to "All Files" And name it index.html or something.

Dreamweaver is far too expensive if your just starting out, Notepad is great, I still use it, and i'm okay with HTML/CSS.

The Boxes are sort of Greyed out leaving it impossible to change anything??
I just want to be able to open the HTML Text in a Browser eithr IE OR Mozilla or the new Edge Browser
    Any help here really appreciated

I was trying to change the Text or All Files box when instead I should have been changing the actual name of the File! Eeeeeek!
