Hi.. Been looking so much spammer with chinese language, spam all day long.. Don't you think new user should approve manually ..? It can help this forum and make more easy to mod to clean up spam thread.. Just my thoughts Cheers
Approving users manually on a forum is a problematic practice. HOW exactly do you discern which account(s) are fake or spam, and which aren't? Mostly, since you only have the information in the registration form to go by, you have nothing to base anything on, except from conjecture like country, name and profile picture, perhaps. Spammers are usually dealt with quickly, I don't think it's a very huge problem for this forum.
There already are a lot of things in place that actively block potential spammers, but it's not going to be perfect. Unfortunately I'm not sure there's a way to know if someone is going to spam before they make a post beyond what we are already doing. If you have better ways or ideas on how to do this, we could incorporate it for sure.
We already use some stuff that is a little more advanced. The unfortunate thing is there probably will never be a 100% sure way to know *if* an account is going to spam in the future when it's a human being creating the account manually.
What admin say is quite right..I think in now days, user from China,..weird "keyboard" username like asdf, dfdfdfdf is more potential in spamming this forum.. Sorry, no offense for user country that I mention above
Well just as an FYI - a user on a Chinese IP really wouldn't be able to spam without a WHOLE lot of effort. Chinese users who get through all our spam traps are doing it manually *and* they would have to be using a proxy that puts them on a non-Chinese IP address. There's a list of about 20 countries that we treat a lot more restrictive than other countries (China is definitely one of them).
I cut a big hole in the spam on my forum by simply banning the whole of India, Pakistan and China. None of the quality posts came from there anyway, so it made no difference to the quality of posts on the forum or forum revenue; just got rid of most of the crap.
