Most probably, the script you downloaded has some code which the original author do not want you to see without paying or something. Maybe that's the reason why they have obfuscated the code! Is that premium script, something you should pay and use? You have three choices pay the author to have the original code without the advertising - that's how the author gets paid, why should a coder work for free? find an alternate script write your own version of the file or your own version of the complete script - you can see what it's doing so you just need to reverse engineer Now, I don't know which of those options will be the most attractive to you but trying to steal someone's work isn't a good look and definitely shouldn't be how you operate your business.

She is just giving you suggestions. No need to feel it as offensive. If a developer wants to provide a piece of code or script for FREE, they might not obfuscate the code! There's no point of doing it if they are going to give it for FREE! So, either it can be a premium script which the author is expecting the user to pay, inorder to access the original code. Or maybe as you suspect, it might be a malicious script which the developer don't want you to see the code! If its the latter, we suggest you to step away from using that code! Maybe if you give us the source of the script we might be able to identify if the author is known to be good/bad. We're pretty in the dark, we have no idea if this is just someone protecting their sponsored links, protecting their IP, or hiding something evil. If we knew when the script was being opened we might be able to help you assess the risk.
