I have a thought which my recent SERP changes seem to validate and I was wondering if others can join in with their views. Here goes. 'Links to your site from Authorative/high PR sites means Google will index more of your pages. Anchor links to your site from related sites will do more to improve your actual SERPs for those keywords. Obviously, the best scenerio is a highly trusted/ranking site relative to your site' The above is taken from various threads and posts from here and also a recent deindexing of about 80% my sites' pages after losing a PR9 link. The SERPs of my pages was however unsurprisingly unaffected and some actually improved. Be interested in more views and experiences with this regards.
Was the PR9 link directly related to the theme ? Was the link on a Home page, a common page, or a deep page ? Did it point to a Home page, a common page, or a deep page ? Sometimes it pays to view a site as you would a book or document, with cover page, chapter references etc. My guess is the PR9 link originated from a sub page on an unrelated site (just guessing of course) I agree with your views. I do believe that theme/subject, coupled with PR makes for a better boost than just PR alone. Get IBL with theme,PR, and originating from a home page, and you have a great start towards organic ranking.
I agree Xenyo. A few sections that I had links from higher page rank site were indexed much deeper than my sections that were linked to lower page rank sites. Anchor text is definitely a huge key to getting good SERPs. Just about every keyword you check, the 1st result is usually also the 1st result for allinanchor.
Was a Homepage to Homepage link ...Couldnt say it was very related but not stupidly unrelated if you know what I mean. So as a summary, Google probably has 3(and more of course such as filters, etc) different ways to calculate different things such as. 1. PR - Quality of backlinks 2. No. of Indexed pages - Most importantly Quality of backlinks. 3. SERPS - Lots of stuff but most importantly Related content links.
I do not know about that statement cause my site has over 4K Indexed Pages as of this date, with only 244 links to the site. And out of those 244 links i doubt any site is over 5 PR. Google is nuts there is no definite pattern or algorithm that you can follow
When you think about it, its very likely that Google uses different algos, bots and times to check for different aspects of a site/page. Thats why there are so many conflicting views on how Googles Algo works and Google likes to keep it that way. For example in my example that I lose a PR9 link on one of my sites. My indexed pages go down but SERPs stay the same. I can think its a few reasons. 1. Google Algo Change. 2. I am penalised for something. 3. Its because of the Link loss. 4. Its a Google glitch. In fact most of the response I get on Webamaster forums for my example seems to be ... its just a Google glitch and the indexed pages will be back soon. I think this is because most people think that my SERPs are high so losing indexed pages must be just a glitch. I am thinking that its different things that are loosely connected only. Of course more views and experiences would be great on this.
Interesting and thanks for the info. 4K pages for a PR5 site should be around right depending on your site structure and how deep your branches/pages go I suppose. The interesting thing was .. From One of my sites.... Say it would be around an estimated PR of 6-7 below the PR9 link removal from my Network .. had over 20K indexed. ... 2 weeks after link removal .. its at 1.4K indexed... After Link removal I would estimate that its a PR5 ish. The site structure is bad though as I havent had time to work on that yet.
Heh... I really do hope so actually ... Anyways its been about a week since I lost about 90% of my traffic for my sites after the deindexing .... However, my SERPs in this time has remained or grown stronger. Surely this can tell us that Google uses different updates for these 2 items at least.
Oh sorry it has only a PR of 3 . And to provide exact numbers this is what i get "4,750 from sbclansite.com" So close to 5K
PageRank is not a number between 1 and 10. "It’s more accurate to think of it as a floating-point number. Certainly our internal PageRank computations have many more degrees of resolution than the 0-10 values shown in the toolbar." at this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=164494 it best to be high in SERPs then a PageRank but does help on SERPs high PR sites means Google will index more of your pages. NO! High or low PR has nothing to do you with your indexing by Google This will be cover in my next issue coming soon
The key to success for a web site is good search engine ranking. All of the major search engines use link popularity to determine how well a site will rank - so the more high quality, relevant links that lead to your site, the higher it will rank.
1- Yes and No. Once the googlebots hit the site the refering sites pr has nothing to do with how many pages will be indexed. Sites with high pr/ authoritative are usually themselves have more bots visiting them because being a high pr site means they usually have alot of sites linking to them sending the bots so in return they will send more bots to your site which will keep your site updated constantly because the bots return the info to google, as opposed to having very few or no googlebots on your site and it happening less often because googlebots are sending google less info about your site and takes longer to get there. The stinkier the cheese the more flies 2- As opposed to non related content..it would make sense.
Dont Know if this helps, but this is an image that I found a while back describing the theme based stuff. Hope it helps..
So what in your opinion is the factors that Google uses to determine how many pages or how deep a site will have?
