    Did you guys hear or read that Dmoz is closing finally?
    It was announced on February 28, 2017 that DMOZ will close down on March 14, 2017.
    After all the effort, buzz, hoo-ha, the directory is finally closing?
    How do you feel about it?

    How about completely indifferent?

    I used to be an editor but it was a huge monolith that became obsolete.

    DMOZ and the involvement with AOL may be ending but it is not yet 100% sure that it will close.

    It may change format, it may cease as it is now and change into a different entity, but exactly what is happening has yet to be determined.

    The DMOZ site has now closed but Editors are working hard behind the scenes to ressurect the directory.

    As I stated above, Editors are working hard to get the data moved over to new software and to continue with the directory, albeit under a different name.

    Im afraid that i am not overly technical so I cant tell you where we are from a technical point, only that a few Senior Editors are trying everything possible to save the directory.

    ofcourse it can. In 20 years time there will probably be memes with the google logo and "you're a kid of the old millenium if you remember this"

    that said, I'm putting a lot of faith in gsuite so I'm hoping like hell Google's upward projectory continues for a while :)
