I am just wondering how do you improve Yahoo rank? Does Yahoo have sand box similar to Google? The site is quite new launched in late February and at the moment running Google adwords (resulted quite well - listed on top of the page sponsored link). Currently rank 55- 3rd page on Yahoo and 4th page on msn (all on australian search) Site stats: link: 411 linkdomain:728 I've checked on the competitor site and it has less link than my project site. This is the site: http://www.glutenfreeshop.com.au Was approached to pay for Yahoo directory (is it worth it?)
I think the yahoo directory is a must. I dont think you can afford not to do it. Thats just in my opinion. Alot of people feel differently.
Indeed they do and I'm one of them. I never recommend my clients pay Yahoo's ridiculous fee. They don't even guarantee you'll get in. However I had one client who insisted on being listed and so we submitted his site and it was accepted. I didn't see one iota of benefit from it. I still think he wasted his money. The only thing that was assuaged was his ego.
The directory is good for most businesess...but not all. webwhiz, Yahoo! really loves content(w/ your keywords included). Add some info about your products and you should have some success.
I'm in the same boat...ranked #1 on msn for 4 good keywords, but nowhere in yahoo. nowhere in google yet, but I expected that.
Yahoo seems to like links, lots and lots of links with KWs in the anchor text. A good directory to submit to is MS small business directory, if you have some cash in your marketing budget. If you have only $5.00 then try Greenstalk.
For me google is the toughest. Yahoo and msn is easily managable. ( Note that I haven't done any SEO work for very very competetive terms, these are for 2word phrases ) I agree anchor text plays important role greatly in msn and yahoo. More that anchor text, better the ranking.
I dont think Yahoo has any kind of sandboxing similar to Google. Ive seen new sites rank very well only weeks after launching them. Having more links than your competitors doesnt necessarily mean you will outrank them, especially in Yahoo. Its more about the qualtiy of the links rather then the quantity. Moreso, in Yahoo I feel on-page factors are alot more important compared to the other engines. Is submitting to the Yahoo directory essential? IMO, No. You can quite easily rank well in Yahoo without a directory listing. If the $300 annual fee doesnt break your budget then perhaps its worthwhile, but if your looking at spending the dosh more wisely Id begin submitting to other smaller web directories which provide a life-time listing and offer a quality link(s)
One little mention. If you really want to rank well on Yahoo, get in their Directory. . It would ease up a lot, on the inbound link work.
My new site has hardly any backlinks but got added to the Y Directory, and now it comes up on the first Y SERP... make of that what you will
Yahoo! Directory will use the title from your submission and compare it to your business name in the "About Us" section of your site and also the whois info. Make sure that your business name matches with how you want to be listed. There can be a benefit in being listed ...
interesting... does this apply to all your clients? I do not do consulting or anything and I am sure you are much more experienced then I. Is it just the cost that holds you back or do you feel as if its ZERO benefit at all? I have had amazing success with sites submited to yahoo directory vs ones I have not. I would have a hard time recomending to any serious website not spending 300$ on a business directory.
That's what others are reporting here also, but I've never seen this phenomenon and Yahoo has issued a very rigorous disclaimer, saying that Directory placement has no impact whatsoever on SERP placement. I tend to believe them. The specific site I refer to is http://www.holisticlearningcenter.com/. They are ranking very well in Yahoo today but that didn't happen for months after we submitted them to the Yahoo directory and it is my opinion that it is due to many other factors not related to the directory submission.
I've tried submitting to yahoo directory numerous times with no luck.....I was using the free basic submit though....has anyone been listed using this? If so how long did it take...
People have been listed using the Yahoo Basic Submit form, but the likely hood of it working now adays is very slim. I think it primarily depends on the category you wish to be listed in. If you have a highly saturated category you're looking to get listed in, it's even harder to get listed.
Check out the term unusual toys in Yahoo! My client is #3 out of 3 million results. And #7 for unique toys out of 12 million results. You can see his page at http://www.sillyasstoys.com for proof that I use this system and it works for Yahoo and even better for MSN which I am #1 and # 6 respectively. Anyway, here it is: (KW = keyword) H1: Phrase with KW H2: Phrase with kw P contains liberal sprinkling of kw or parts of it H2: phrase with kw P contains liberal sprinkling of kw or parts of it H3 phrase with kw P contains liberal sprinkling of kw or parts of it I'd love to know if anyone else has tried this with success. Seems to finally be working for google. #11 for unusual toys as of this week.
