Hi All, I hope the weeks been good to you. Ok, no dithering, I'll just get down to it. I have just started a new website after a lot of umming and ahhing, and I still have some apprehensions about the set up and how the site looks. I am somewhat still finding my feet when it comes to website building, so any advice would be welcomed on how I can improve it. The site is http://healthyfittips.xyz Thank you so much all, and much warmth to all of you!
Overall the site looks great. A few observations: 1. Why is the daily calorie calculator in both English and Chinese? (http://healthyfittips.xyz/daily-calorie-needs) 2. Your footer is a bit disorganized. 3. Who is the primary author(s) of the articles? I saw one article attributed to someone. It'll probably add credibility if all of them are attributed to their respective authors. 4. Are you not a fan of .css? I see you style your pages without using a .css file. Is it a personal preference?
I recommend removing text links you do not need such as "Submit Express Local SEO". Also, after some seconds of staying on the page, everything freezes and I'm forced to close the tab on Google Chrome.
You can't really say "Use our calorie intake calculator" and then present the visitor with a beta widget that is slow and clunky and NOT YOURS. And it doesn't take into account the activity level of the person, general health and the type of diet (low fat or low carb - because not all calories are the same) But that isn't an SEO check. Your site doesn't have a "unique selling proposition", it's more like a 101 of health websites that every wanna be creates because they have no expertise in the field so they just regurgitate the same old info. Without an "edge" Google will have no reason to send traffic your way - there are well established sites already doing what you do, and doing it well. Surely that isn't yoast putting all that css on the page? If you can't create a template that enqueues css and js files then you need to get one created by someone else. It's not hard, do a bit of reading and update your theme. You'll benefit from the coding practice.
I hear you. I am looking at getting the css sorted. As for the direction, there are some posts I am happy with and had had good feedback, while some need to be pulled up by their boots and shaken a little. But I getcha, it's about having a strong voice/direction that stands out. I'm sure I'll get there, just need to find me feet. Appreciate the advice! @qwikad: The daily calorie counter was one that was an open share and could be embedded on any website. I think it was by a Chinese developer hence the English/Chinese. I think I'm gonna get rid of it...it doesn't seem to be adding anything. I was just looking at that the footer, and thinking to myself it looked a little frazzled. I was trying to put a backlink at the front page (as specified by the directory) and it was the only place I could think to put it that was somewhat inconspicuous. Gotta keep reminding myself that footers matters As for the writers, that would be myself and two of my friends (I'm the technical one) lol, so they kind of sit back on these things when I'm web building. I will look into attributing the articles to them. I have noticed where I have done that, there is a better response. As for .css I hav dabbled. It's tip top of my my list of things I going to brush up on. Thanks qwikad, for some great pointers! Just wanted to say thank you to everyone, frantically taking notes as we speak. Wow! Ok, did not realize that. I am sooo on it! Thank you Frost1!
All the SEO you do will be wasted without it. There are so many people in this market from Gwyneth down and they've all got a head start. It doesn't mean you can't succeed but you need to be clear about your goals - what does success look like - and how you are going to tackle them. BTW your title text is "fitness magazine" and I'm concerned that you are using two SEO plugins. What does "auto seo" do that Yoast doesn't?
By the way instead of using a full link as in: <link rel="icon" href="http://healthyfittips.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cropped-cropped-couple-running-1-32x32.png" sizes="32x32" /> Code (markup): just do a slash forward and ignore the domain name: <link rel="icon" href="/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cropped-cropped-couple-running-1-32x32.png" sizes="32x32" /> Code (markup): That way you'll save a lot of headache if you decide to purchase an SSL certificate (https ://) or if you happen to switch to the .com extension in the future.
Oh my goodness, I had no idea that was still running on my site. I will have to nix that plugin pronto. When I started, I went on a plugin frenzy and now I'm paying the price. I understand about the fitness weight loss niche being a tad over saturated, I guess I wanted to go with something I felt comfortable writing about....but I know that I'm going to have to pull some xtra's out to make this something that lasts. Thank you Sarah, great tips! qwikad I'm going to go look at that. Thank you! Some sterling tips...I'm raring to get this all sorted.
