Suggestions to get my site #1 on google...

    hi,

    i have started a directory www.Metropolisdirectory.com

    i have submitted directory to several hundreds of good pr directories...

    I want my directory to be first on google for "Metropolis" or atleast for "metropolis directory".

    I would appreciate if you all provide some good suggestions.. thnx

    With your domain name you will be high for the term metropolis directory, even without a high PR.

    Search engines

    Search engines are the bread and butter of all websites, so optimising your site is a must if you want online success, higher rankings brings more clicks. With that said being listed in search engines alone is not enough to ensure your business gets the attention it deserves.

    Domain name

    It’s very important for you to get your own domain name with the keywords you plan on using, as free domains are useless if you are serious about your online business. Getting free domains listed in directories is near impossible and cuts out a huge chunk from your online presence.

    Keywords

    Keywords is an important factor of seo as search engines use these to judge a sites relevance through textual content.

    Images

    If your website is image led, the best thing to do is add some text into your images, using ALT in your meta tag; for search engines to read.

    Title and description

    The most important meta tag to get right is the title and description because search engines use these to judge a sites relevance to a search query from a possible vistor. So your choice of keywords in your title and description is what should make you stand out from the crowd of hundreds of thousands of related websites. Although the description is as important as the title; the title is key to online success.

    Also i would suggest increasing <body></body> with your title and keywords "Metropolis" "metropolis directory". To reflect your meta data,, and vice versa.

    If you're looking for more natural traffic, search engines aren't the only way to achieve this. Most of your traffic will come from search engines, but a lot of your traffic will also come from other websites that have linked to yours, so try focusing on exchanging links with other websites instead of just focusing on getting a high PR in search engines.

    Like terryuk said it should just happen.

    Couple of items you may want to look at though:

    (a) Clean up the HTML there are about 50 errors
    (b) Add a meta description
    (c) Put a link to your sitemap at the bottom of every page (helps with getting entire site indexed)
    (d) Surround the words "metropolis directory" in the top green bar with the <strong> </strong> attribute

    To give you something to aim for:

    To get to the top of "metropolis directory" in Google you'll probably need 90 links counted by yahoo- although your probably have already done enough - just give it up to 3 months.

    To get to the top of metropolis you'll need between 15,000 and 47,000 links registered by yahoo & pr in the order of 7 - might be a longer term project :)

    No one can guarantee you #1 in Google. Your question is too broad actually. Just keep doing your SEO techniques/strategy and upgrade your SEO knowledge always. Read lots of SEO articles since I can read on your post that your an SEO newbie. Never stop learning new ideas, techniques, and strategy. SEO is fast changing industry so you better catch up with it by reading SEO news, articles, blogs, forum post and any seo related material that can help you improve your SEO knowledge and strategy.
