    you need 50x the traffic compared to a niche site
    in order to get a decent conversion.....

    I think you are just going to blow money on seo
    on a news site that is not going to convert very well.
    it is far more effective marketing to a single niche
    group, rather then trying to market to any, and everyone.

    Correct. SEO is crazy fluid these days in the first place. You are dealing with a moving target. This needs to get dealt with using a proper social strategy. Facebook is pretty easy to sort out. Spending cash on SEO for this is a fools errand.
