Hey everyone, I've decided that I need to start my local IT business back up as I'm moving into my own place now and need some additional income until my online business starts making some money (hopefully). I only stopped it due to concentrating on other projects but I overall enjoyed the work and it was a reliable source of income so I think it's probably a smart move. I do feel a little sad as It's like I'm going backwards but I've been working on this other project for the last 18 months and it was a lot bigger than I first imagined (It launches in January). I'm thinking about just using my name ScottSpoonerIT etc this time as most of my customers are local and I think they'll find comfort knowing who they are dealing with instead of some random company name. I still have some clients around my area but really want to start fresh and just focus on providing local support. If you could give me some name ideas that would be great. I'm looking at using this theme here: http://www.mi.ht2.pl/demo1/, I think it's nice and simple. Just give your opinion, I always appreciate it. Thanks

One of the most exciting and easiest part of owning a business is thinking of a company name. If you are so indecisive on deciding on a name for a temporary small town local IT company then you have other issues to be worried about...
There are two most important things we should keep in mind. One, that you are going to work locally. Second, people already knows Scott Spooner. So if you are after a quick keyword game, so you might want to purchase a domain with the keyword in it. For example, as @unlimitedoptions4us suggested. However, I won't recommend that approach based on your scenario. I'd suggest using a local TLD, if that's available. Otherwise, if you are going for a .com ScottSpoonerIT sounds good to me. See, you are the ones who is differentiating this business from others. So your brand is really important here. Eventually, you need to hire a good writer and SEO guy to help you with rankings for your keywords locally. If you're interested, I will be able to help you in writing relevant articles and SEO your website, so that you can rank for your lucrative, unexplored keywords locally. Again, that's just my two cents. Hope that helps, wish you loads of success!
I agree with @unlimitedoptions4us (Dan) and would suggest including a tagline to this effect so that anyone who doesn't know you and lands on your website, can see at a glance that you're the specialist for your local area. For example: you live in London Canada let's say. A potential tagline could be: ~ ScottSpoonerIT : For Your London Canada IT needs or ~ ScottSpooner: The London Canada IT Specialist
Guys I have one now thanks anyway. I used ScottSpoonerit.co.uk in the end. It's simple and I think people like it has it's actually my name.
