U can try to promote it on other sites/forums.
Ask your friends to paste the link in their signature on other sites.
And of course, you must have high-quality content and at an early stage to participate in the forum itself.

Advertise your forum. Just like any business, get it on social media. It wasn't like early 2000 when you have to make a site just for a forum, and then hopefully search engines would pick it up. Now social media makes things easier, though it would still be nice if your forum would have a site.

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the replies, All of it is really good advice and it will defiantly be taken onboard. @sarahk don't worry it is definitely not another 'gossip' site :D @matt_62 some really good points thanks! I will be hiring a few people to moderate the forum but I will have to think what I can offer them, I know I could pay them for their time but the amount of hours would be so much. I understand it will take a lot of work and money, I'm more than prepared for this. I'll be sure to be back to rub it your face 'when' I'm successful ;) (Not trying to be too cocky) haha.

@Agent000 Very interesting, I'll have a think about what I could offer each one to allow them to progress to the next stage. I guess one could be a gift etc for the users that contribute the most... Slowly getting people into the 1%.

There is so much good advice here and I didn't expect the amount of members to get involved. I will defiantly have to start creating a detailed marketing plan to keep me on the right path. Thanks!

I like it how your auto-correct uses defiantly instead of definitely. Don't get too defiant though :)

It's all about the name. If you get a good (catchy) domain name some of the stuff that has been suggested may or will work, otherwise it will be a tough road ahead. Still may work, but it will take much longer. Either way gear yourself up for 2-4 years of hard work.

Why not just pay them in the same way that the mods are paid on DP? They receive $1 U.S. for every warning they send out, they get $5 for every member they ban. Also a Xmas bonus of $100 is given to the mod that has banned the most member in the last fiscal year.

    pay no attention to that.

and you might be thinking "why would I pay for members to be banned?" - because you need people who are vigilant and can spot spam when they see it. Search up Fuji Xerox here for some spam that got trolled. It was a reasonably sophisticated effort but it was spam nonetheless. And you're still not paying your mods to ban people.

I was worried that @scott2342 might think you were serious - the last guy who wanted my pay docked showed that some forums must be paying some people

Some plugins for XenForo allow for a virtual currency system where rewards are given for posts.

Haha sorry this new browser addon :/

@sarahk @Spoiltdiva Yes don't worry I won't be doing that :D So does Digital point pay staff? Does anyone know how digital point got started? @jasontn I've been thinking about rewards in the way to help their business, Something like a raffle for new members that sign up that month, a gift for the member that contributes the most etc.

Here's the question though, What would I have to offer for all you to join? What kind of thing would appeal to you? Let's say that obviously the forum is in an area you have some interest and it has some decent content, What else would you need/want? For example most people would join to ask a question, If you didn't need to ask a question right now what else would convince you to join anyway?

    Cheers!

Postloop is officially gone. The reason it is gone is the one mentioned above: it simply didn't work. Hundreds of forums filtered through that service, dumping many thousands of dollars for marginal (at best) content, only to see the forum still dead months or years down the road. There are alternatives to the now defunct Postloop but I would be, frankly, very skeptical of their results. Caveat emptor.

you have to run it through the designated filter.

    It translates to:
Really nice support from members of this forum community, on how to create your own forum.
