Restoring a backup using cPanel from tar.gz file

    Hello,

Yesterday I accidently over write the WordPress installation of my main website while installing a new WordPress setup.
My web host company (Hostagator) gave me a backup file of previous day. They kept a tar.gz file in my /home directory.
I have few queries as to how to restore the same

    1. Do I have to download the file, unzip it and upload the contents manually using FTP?
    2. Will this file also include the database backup and how can I restore it?
    3. Can I restore the back using cPanel?

    Thanks in advance.

You just need to restore the home directory backup, which you can do in the cpanel backend.

So you mean the tar.gz file is the home directory back? What about the database?

Yes. You restore the home directory files in the Backup section of Cpanel.

You shouldn't need to restore the database, but if you do, you will need to ask the host for the database backup.

If you need both restored, you should ask HostGator to do a full account restore from their backup.

I would first download your own backup on your computer in case they aren't able to restore the backup as we talk about hostgator so you have at least some files.
