Dedicated Server Versuses Shared Hosting

Discussion in 'Web Hosting' started by frankwyatt77, Feb 2, 2009.

I Hope this is the right forum to post my question.

I currently have a dedicated server which is costing me 180.00 a month.

    I have 10 dedicated ips.

I have 60 Domains I host. Not alot of resources are running tho. Mostly Wordpress blogs.

My question is since most of my sites have been indexed already what will happen if i switch to shared hosting?

    Will this affect my rankings.

Are there advantages of having your own ip?

    Thanks So Much

As for indexing, you should see no difference when it is changed to shared hosting.

As for your own ips, some say google can detect bad neighborhood site on same ip then you, then will penalise you. I Feel this is BS. If that was the case, I would try to get an account on same ip as my competitor and put a crap site on it.

Have you thing of a VPS instead of a dedicated server. You can get a good VPS for 1/3 of the cost of your dedi and benefit from same features as a dedi, such as root access, whm, total control.

What are your average resource usage and monthly bandwidth? Who's the dedi with and specs?

Nothing will happen to you rankings, but you should make sure to keep the old server up for 30 days after the switch.

    $180 / 60:domains = $3 per domain

What's the cheapest shared hosting you're going to find, maybe $2 a month ?
So you would save $1 per domain for a total of $60 saved, but is $60 a month really worth needing to maintain 60 accounts each month ?

VPS is the way to go. but, just like curtis129 said, if you're making money, better not taking risk swapping server, unless you really know the technicalities or can hire a real expert. don't want to disrupt already running service.

VPS is cheaper and offer you almost same control as a dedicated host. there are places where you could get a 1 year VPS for free ( but normally they allow upto 32 domains only ) if they are blog domains, you could endup getting hosting at 180 for a whole year. calculate the savings..

regarding the service, get a decent host which doesnt oversell too much and you would get a equal QOS.

Google doesnt care about ur IP, they have enough logic to seperate a bad site and good site from the same IP / datacenter

Shared services are bad for anyone...
They give u the options for unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth ..but you will face unlimited downtime...
I have faced the issues and I have been penalized because of this from Google..:(

If you ask me, you should not be going with shared service. They comes with unlimited eye washing packages but in real time they are not at all good.

It depends, there's an old saying, " If it isn't broke then why try to fix it? " with that said, no your google ranking and indexing should not be affected, would be the same currently domain name with extension pointing to the same place. If cost is what you're concerned about, look at it as a whole. Maybe even a reseller hosting program might be a good route for you to go.

I think its better to continue with a dedicated server. it will affect your ranking a shared hosting have low bandwidth soo if soo many traffic it will not afford and it will not affect the indexing of your website But i think your dedicated server cost is too big. I am using Vebcy's Server for the last 2 years, they are giving good support and cheap price i have 5 dedicated servers from them now, no issues till this time. Please check out their website www.vebcy.com . Am DAM sure that they will help.

    Thank You

I'm not disagreeing with you, however if he's not peaking his resources, including, bandwidth, space etc. then there is no need for it, besides he also has multiple IP addresses.

Your IP can get blacklisted, regardless general maintenance is a good thing. Shouldn't be spamming to begin with.

You should consider SEO Hosting. We allow dedicated IP addresses for your sites.
