    The names of some deadliest dictators come to mind... Enver, Pol, Adolf, Benito. But then, again, there are plenty of good people bearing those names. For some Vladimir Lenin was a dictator, yet every 5th boy in Russia is Vladimir (seems like). Personally, if my name was Richard, I wouldn't want to be called Dick. I am surprised that most Richards, here in the US, don't mind to be called Dicks.

    Alternatively those of our cultural leaders like Jesus or Mohammed. Can you imagine if one of them did something stupid - "Fuck that! Jesus/Mohammed is an asshole, you'll never believe what he did". We get lots of Mohammeds here who run scams and I reckon the karmic penalty would be bigger for them because they bring their leader's name into disrepute.

    For real? You should read "A burnt out case" by Graham Green. It's about a Catholic priest who gave up on everything, including his Church, went to Africa to take care of people with leprosy and eventually contracted one himself. Quite a cheerful read.

    Still better than naming him Lucifer. True story there are a few Lucifers living in various parts of the world. Who would in their right mind name their son Lucifer??

    Auckland has a large Polynesian population and they have a thing about naming the kids after their point of conception so we have kids with names like "Mt Roskill Bus Stop" and "Army Blanket"
    I think I'd prefer Lucifer - at least it doesn't acknowledge that your parents "did it" and where.

    I have never cared for my middle name, Manuel. I especially do not like the diminutive "Manny" despite the fact that my Uncle Manny was also my godfather and I really liked him.

    That is hilarious. I didn't know they did that. But then again, EmerSON (the son of Emer, Emer "did it"), StevenSON (the son of Steven, Steven "did it"), etc. I often find how the concepts we think are a norm can look like witchcraft to some (horoscopes, for instance) or your Polynesians can say to you, "hey your great, great, great grand father "did it" for all of you and you don't care." I understand it's not quite the same, but some may argue that it can sound just as grotesque as naming your son or daughter after a blanket.

    I had a classmate whose first name was Asad, and unfortunately enough, his last name was Butt. So every time the teacher roll calls, "Asad Butt, is Asad Butt here?", the whole class would just have a smirk on their face and turn to him. Funny, but felt bad for the dude.
