What do you guys mean by dead? Websites are still getting ranked and still benefitting from higher ranks with more traffic, right? This makes SEO still important.

Well, if you aren't trolling him then there is something to it but he have no idea what.

According to SEO Pros there are subjects Google uses for it Algo to calculate SERP
One of those subjects - hyperlinks or commonly know as "back links" who's job is to
act as a referrals and to to tell G. how popular that site so G. can use that data
to determine how high or low to place that site in SERP.

The problem with SEO Pros theory in real life G. is trying to kill backlinking for
sometimes now and asking people to use 'nofollow' is the best example of Google
finally got the idea that starting PR (Page Rank) was bad idea cause PR opens
can of worms by creating "backlinks industry" where they were sold by millions
thus making PR a jock, totally useless metrics which would show nothing but
how good one can f@ck Google but because for SEO Pros backlinks are survival,
bread and butter of their trade, they are continue to insist that G. uses backlinks
    as strong as ever.

So, there you have it, myth has been born.

    :)

I was trolling them as they obviously had no idea wtf they were talking about!
    ...kinda like this one:
who also obviously has no idea what PR is and what they are talking about.

PageRank was last updated in November 2013.

So, all sites created after that date do not have a PageRank value assigned, and all sites created before that date will retain their last PageRank value forever.

So for all practical purposes, PageRank is DEAD because it is no longer an accurate measure of anything.

You can still use it to see which sites had best link juice in November 2013 though.

Actually they never stopped updating it, they just stopped having the updates shown to the public since December 2013. Since then it was only updated internally and Google kept the PageRank data to themselves.

This is not correct, all sites do have PageRank (even sites created after Dec. 2013), there is just no way to find out what it is since Google has kept the PR values and data to themselves since December 2013.

All Google did in Dec. 2013 was to stop updating it for the public. So, all PR checks from then till they shut it off completely to the public this year were for what the PR was in Dec. 2013.

It's still used by Google today and sites have PR, there is just no way to know what it is unless you are Google.

All Google did was to blackout the public from it completely, even the Dec. 2013 data is gone.

"Google will still be using the data, but it will no longer be visible to the public."

Page Rank is already dead. Google has not updated it for several years; therefore, it is no longer displayed.

Wrong. Google update it every day and choose not to display it publicly!

LOL, I didn't check that out till you said this. I've seen a lot of those kind of posts on a lot of forums lately. I don't think that people are realizing that LQ and worthless posts are hurting the forums that many of us love being a part of. I guess that's what is called progress, right! ;)

Why not read posts in this thread before posting and you will realize how wrong you are. Google update PR daily and incorporate that PR into the ranking algorithm daily, just like they have being doing for years.. They just no longer export a static historical value of that PR to entertain us with.

Why then do many peoples' PR still remain the same for over two years now or so without upgrade?

    Am curious to know please
