Hi everyone, I've just started a website related to whiteboard videos. It is called "Marker Video". I have two options for the domain name: 1) MarkerVideo-dot-com (I won't post link because I don't know if that's allowed) 2) Marker-dot-video The site is still new, so I can go in any of these two directions, I don't have any links or following to lose. Which domain you think would be better choice from marketing point of view? I've read that in terms of SEO it doesn't make much difference, and I don't care about domain sale value or anything like that. I just want to know if .video domain would seem strange or cheap to an average customer, or would it maybe be easy to remember and draw some extra attention? Any opinion is much appreciated!
From the SEO point of view it does make a difference. Top TLD domains, that is .com, .net and .org are still being preferred by search engines above these new TLDs. That does not mean that you can't rank them, but you will be in a disadvantage before you even start.
Thanks for the reply! Well, considering this, I will definitely stick to .com. Plus, two people today told me that, to them, domain like marker.video would look weird, even sketchy, untrustworthy. Thanks again for the advice!
Definitely go with the dot com because Google stated that the keyword tld's do not count as a ranking factor. Here's more info on it: http://searchengineland.com/google-says-keywords-tld-part-url-ignored-ranking-purposes-251971
Thanks! I will definitely go with dot-com, all signals point to that direction. That .video domain purchase was obviously a complete waste of money
You are most welcome. Well if you already bought it then you can put some kind of site on it or try to sell the domain. Maybe make a few bucks from it. Good Luck.
