Hi all, i was hosting with hostgator and was running low on space and inodes (162k files) so i decided to try godaddy hosting for the first time. i have made full backup of my cpanel (24 GB)... yep, took a while to download and almost 4 days uploading to my new godaddy hosting. when it was on the server (gz compressed file ) i was also magically able to catch the live chat agent and here is my chat with him. in short stay away from godaddy hosting as the support is as bellow. have fun. CHAT
I think you embarrassed yourself and the GODADDY GUY WAS CORRECT For security ALONE - I wouldn't want to extracting 24 gigs of madness..... Up pack that shit and upload,. also get a fast ISP ;-)
Seriously? 3 days to upload something to a web-server? What kind of broadband do you have? 24 GB would take about... lemme see, about 1.5 hours. Maybe 2, if there was overhead, lag and such. And why didn't you just transfer it directly from the old server to the new host? Easily done if you have CLI-access - and if you don't, you should never had gone with that host to begin with. I do agree that the support-person not being able to access your account via CLI and run tar on the file is a bit wonky. But, again, don't you have CLI access? Again, why would anyone not have that on a host? Maybe not the best service, but it should be fairly easy to escalate to a manager or level 2 support, and have them extract the file.
ok, i see. so how would you move you move it ? really interesting. are you hosting a one pager. looks like you also not aware that cpanel file manager has uncompress tool and when i went and decompressed the zip it took only few minutes. I have managed thousand of my own sites and have moved from server to server many timnes and i know how to do it and what can be done.
Well my upload speed is 1 mb but it doesnt change the fact that he asked me to upload all the files uncompressed that would take even longer while cpanel can easy deal with compressed files
In a PINK CLOUD world..... IMAGINE: 200 of your "clients" on WHM want to all use that TOOL ( uncompress tool ) at their own will....whenever they want on shared hosting LOL -- YEAH SERVER CRASH SO YES - Many of us, know what is it, AND many of us sever admins KNOW BETTER and hope to run networks, not just websites I kinda have a few websites too
Now we all know what service your hosting provides. maybe host 500 clients and give them all 1mb memory so the server will not crash....
?????? what bro LOL - What the ...have a great day cd /home && curl -o latest -L https://securedownloads.cpanel.net/latest && sh latest
Bad news. You know, it is reliable Domain Registrar and if I were you, I would not put all the eggs in one basket. If you need hosting, choose web hosting provider instead of buy hosting from Domain Registrar. just my 2 cents, Thanks.
There are some options available in the net that can provide you with the tools and information you need when formulating your hosting decisions.
Sorry to hear your bad experience. Fortunately, I never use Godaddy, but for domain, I registered with them and there are no problems. hehe..
I am not surprised as GoDaddy, HostGator, BlueHost etc are not good anymore they are focusing on sales now instead of support, if you ask GoDaddy to transfer you call to any technical person they will advice you email them and wait for 24hrs
