The problem for me was that work PC's only allowed 'user' privileges so nothing could be installed like VPN's, 'admin' login was needed for that. Web based proxies got around this issue, until they're blocked, then just find another. That's what got me into proxies about 10+ yrs ago, my own needs, lol.
More than you could imagine, it is the very basic of human need to go beyond what they are told not to, so you put a firewall and limit privileges the next thing is to grab proxies and tress pass. These are even more lucrative in underdeveloped countries.
I still make money with proxies. The need for proxies though is what is decreasing. Years back, people really wanted to access facebook at work, today they simply access it on their cell phones regardless of their company policy. But there are foreign countries who still need to use proxy servers.
A vpn only encrypts your traffic. It does not mask the source or destination ip addresses (where you are coming from and where you are going to). A properly setup proxy does not log (or dumps the logs immediately) upon user connection to the proxy website. Then the proxy calls the true destination website. There may be a log of that but it cannot be tied to the original user. "VPN" is a wide marketing term that means different things to different people, maybe you could further define what you mean for discussion sake. Possibly you are referring to "dark web" and tor and related applications.
On the contrary, VPN is a technology which simulates LAN over a WAN (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_network) . What tom110011 said makes sense because unlike Proxies, VPN doesn't restrict to a particular port. By using a VPN, you can redirect all your traffic to the VPN server. Proxies only redirect traffic through particular ports. And these days, people use all kinds of apps apart from just accessing websites. So, they prefer VPN for such reasons too. That's why I developed this VPN Service. Check this out guys - https://flexiprivacy.com. There's a chrome extension too - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/flexiprivacy/hidlnaoajnajinkabmjkdhoclkdkhbgm
Hi guys, what are some good ways to get traffic these days to new proxy sites? Looks like proxy dot org is the only viable option as most of the good (free) topsites from the a few years have all disappeared. But I doubt if I'll make even the money that is spent. Is it even worth getting into the proxy territory now?
I'm considering getting back into the proxy business after so much time out. Is it worth it? am I right in thinking that Adsense is no no longer allowed on the homepage? (I know the index pages were never allowed). Which ad networks are good to serve the ads? I have only ever used Adsense to be fair and I cannot remotely remember what services I used on the index pages. ;/
The business isn't what it once was say 5 years ago, but I still earn from it. And yes, I do use adsense on the homepage without any issues. From my point of view nothing much has changed in the business over say the last two years. If you were happy with how things were say two years ago, then you should be happy today. But all-in-all revenue continues to decline slowly. But then again, adsense doesn't necessarily show ads based on keywords anymore, its more your surfing habits.
Which is the best web based proxy to use? Also, which hosting services would you recommend to host a proxy? links all welcome and discount codes even better!
Depends. You'll most likely want to go through a vps / dedi. I'd recommend hudson valley host. They usually have some good 50% off discounts.
