Link exchanges are great, they're free and a 3-way link with another relevant site is very helpful.

And you don't really need to spend much money. You can build up a healthy supply of backlinks for under $20, the issue is finding relevant sites.

Yes, articles can really help you. Don't wait for any traffic from them (unless they're REALLY great), but you can get a lot of links even form one article (however, if you post them to free article dyrectories, it could take you mcu решьу to do this manually, and these links tend to "disappear" after a time)

It would be really helpfull if you could give us your website url or at least tell us what your niche is. There are some "custom" advertising methods for each niche. For example if you are a web designer, you could make a free Wordpress template.

Try to find out yr competitors backlinks and post the links their. If any one is not offering freelinks, write to the webmasters requesting for links and tell them why need their links. You can use blog comments also for getting some links.

Are you interested in a 3 way link. I have two sites www.imgtube.com and www.traffic-blowout.com. They are both less than a month old. If you are still interested we could do a 3 way link for my two websites and your PR4 Directory. www.imgtube.com has a PR4 prediction. Thanks.

I'm currently looking to find some good places to post my link for my proxy, without having to spam my site with small graphical buttons and the likes. I've submitted my link to around five directory's, but none really bring in any traffic. I've also purchased MySpace advertising from a member here, money_train. This has brought in an extra 15 or so uniques a day so far, which isn't bad for $13.

    ~Kieran/Rimki

PS. Where are some good places to submit articles too? :)

If you think google can't spot a three-way link, like they can link-exchange, you have no clue of mathematics. Only link to sites that are worth linking to, for your visitors sake - that way the links won't get you into trouble. get your site in the wrong neighborhood by linking to spam, and your rankings will be hard to save (except by... getting the links off your site).

I'm not sure if article writing is the best way to go unless you've written an OUTSTANDING article because there are millions of articles on the internet due to everybody telling webmasters that it's the best way to gain links. I wrote an article (13 pages) and distributed to free article websites in 3 parts and I really didn't see an improvement. I recently checked to see if my articles were still around on google and to my surprise it was only on a couple of websites. For some reason after a while they were deleted from many of the websites that I submitted to as I submitted them to hundreds of article websites. So I'm not really sure if articles are the best way to gain links anymore.

To give you some positive information instead of just negative, I think the best way to go about gaining back links is to join a link-exchanging program like some posts mentioned above. You definately want quality links and not quantity. You also don't want to link to a website that search engines consider bad as it could possible work against you and bring your PR down.
