    It is generally not bad to ride a trend. However, it makes only sense if you add value to the audience. You can tweet any kind of shit from your account and add a trending hashtag, some bots might like it and you think you hit the jackpot. If you really want to get some attention, understand what the trend is about, create relevant content and then share it.

    I second that. Contribute to the topic and the community no matter what site you are on. Include a link when appropriate and when allowed. If you drop a link and it is totally irrelevant, chances are you'll get no decent traffic out of it.
