Hello. Many times I would like to give a "thank you" to a poster, but I only can "like" it. Some times not necesarly I "like"" the post, but I would like to "thank" the poster. I would like that a "Thank You" hack would be included just like the "like" hack. Thanks... ~Mike
If you are trying to say thank you to someone, why not just start a conversation with them to say thanks?
What about to start a conversation just to say I "like" what you posted. (it is time consuming just for a single word) Simple, I just want to thank a poster for any action he/she did, not to start a conversation.
Can't really see your problem, If you want to thank someone then that means you like what they posted...so just give them a like, Seems like a non-issue to me.
Wait, wait, wait.... I don't have a problem. I am making a suggestion for the site, which I found my self thinking to thank a poster and the only action is "like" it. "Thank you" and "like" does not have the same meaning. Or Am I wrong? Just in this case. The site owner might not like my suggestion (post), but he may want to "thank" me for me trying to improve the site with a suggestion. Isn't that clear? well... I don't want to turn this thread into a discussion. It was just for a suggestion. And is not that I am demanding a "thank you" hack. Its just a suggestion. Thanks...
In this regard, a "thank you" and "like" pretty much have the same meaning and purpose. The purpose of the like is to show that you appreciate the post. What reason you have for liking it is not really that relevant for anyone but you. A like is seen in context to the post. If someone posts something funny in the genchat, then you like it because you think it funny. If someone answers a question you ask, and provides a solution, or at least some guidance, you like it to express gratitude.
Not really. A "like" in social media settings have long had different meanings based on the content of the post you like, any comments you make, etc. Which is one of the reasons FB now has the emoticon-"likes" as well. To give the users the ability to differentiate a little bit more. Personally, I don't really see the need for such a differentiation here on this forum, but I do understand your point. It's just not entirely valid, methinks.
I can just imagine the internal conversation. A user thanked me for my post but didn't like it - does that mean they didn't like it? Did they dislike it more or less than the user who neither thanked me nor liked my post? What if they liked but didn't thank, does that mean they're ungrateful? To become Established would I have to have 3 likes and 3 thanks?
Also, given that we have another praise, the "Best Answer" rewarded... nah, I'm very happy with just a like-button, thank you very much
