I don't understand what you don't get...There is not a lot of competition for that keyphrase that's all we're trying to say.

When you search without quotes you get millions of websites because you get results that contain the following "keyword1" AND "keyword2" OR "keyword1" or "keyword2" in no particular order.

When you put up a site that contains the EXACT keyphrase you are targetting and work on getting backlinks you should have no trouble ranking for that keyphrase. I also just gave you an example of one of my sites which you obviously did not bother to check. I am #1 for "borat videos" with quotes and #4 without quotes, is that a huge difference? No. But look at the amount of results that come back:

Results 1 - 10 of about 5,750,000 for borat videos
Personalized Results 1 - 10 of about 140,000 for "borat videos"

Why? Because there are millions of sites that contain the word Borat and the word videos but the words are just on the page in no particular order. Hope this clears it up.

Site is #3 in Yahoo for "list of free proxies", cant find it anywhere in Google or MSN

It is weird my rankings have changed, because all cached versions of the page show my old page before I "optimized" it.

Every site I have I get at #1 for a keyword I want. Am I am more a newbie to this business. Just have unique content, relevelant backlinks and you will be fine.

 

Just goes to show how much the search results position is driven by the anchor text of links to your site...

 

I guess so. I got directory submission using the keyphrase I'm targeting, then put in my sig using the keyphrase I'm targeting, and all link exchanges use the keyphrase I'm targetting.

Meaning every single link pointing towards my page (that I know of, unless people placed one without my knowledge) uses my keyphrase! Hopefully this will pay off

Very few backlinks are showing up. You did the directory submission on 12/6 and there's only 10 backlinks in MSN right now.

 

Directories don't approve links straight away. I've had about 20 approvals so far.

Search yahoo for Links

There are 58 items that come up.

Using the tool here at PrMeNow it has 49 backlinks

This was a good thread. I'd like to hijack a tad and hopefully this will help clear up things as well for the OP. Gypsy talked about drilling down to find out if it's worth it to develop a keyword. I found a niche and did what you suggested, and here are the results.

I did a look at the top 20 without quote websites, and found a mixture of different PR's. The first 10 have 3 PR7 and 3 PR6 websites. But, they are general websites, not specifically to do with the search term. For instance CNN.com, DMOZ, and about.com. There are also 3 Amazon books returned in the first 10. And then on the next 10 the rankings drop pretty quick, One PR 6 and the rest are PR4 or less including three PR0 sites, with a few amazon books scattered in. I can't find a single website in the list that seems to be in anyway keyed onto this keyword phrase. However, the keyword phrase is a little funky, not misspelled, but definitely not good english. However, the search volume is pretty large.

There is only one competitor for that keyword phrase, so I could get in for 0.05, however in the "proper english search phrase" there are over sixty competitors and Top 3 is over $4. So, it might not be worth even bothering with SEO, just adwords on that keyword phrase, and then adsense out on the more "proper" phrase.

Anyway, let me know if I'm missing anything here.

It might not be a real keyword phrase. If you got it from overture or an overture tool some of the keyphrases it brings up are not necessarily worded in the right order. Have you bothered to check the competition for the "proper english" phrase? I mean in the search results, with quotes.

 

I was using Adwords Analyzer, using the quote feature, and the Google Sandbox tool. I'm pretty sure that it's at least in the right order. For it to make proper english, you'd have to add two words.
