I need an android to do some testing on and it's a bit of a bind having to borrow from other people so I thought I'd get a cheap phone - but I've heard that some cheap androids are rubbish.

Are any of these any good?

The Motorola Moto E seems like good value for money. The one thing it's lacking is a good camera, which really shouldn't be a concern when buying a budget smartphone.

On a Personal note, I have tried my hands on a Samsung phone and an HTC. I have always wanted to try the Moto E.

With the configuration listed here, moto looks the best. Though the configuration for the Samsung phone is mediocre, I would prefer that because they follow the rules of Apple phone! It is good to test with the Samsung phone! Btw, what are you looking to test, if that's mentioned here, we can get more specific or identify better choices! :)

I'm developing apps. They're not fancy - one will have a QR scanner but no games or anything power hungry.

Go for HTC or Motorola as I believe they are good, I personally tried HTC and one of my close friend had Motorola and he has good reviews about it.

    Cheers

I have a HTC Sensation XL which I am happy with. But the HTC Desire doesn't have good reviews.

I had used Galaxy Y, HTC Desire and Moto E and I will suggest Moto E only reasons below
    1) Robust Phone (HTC seems to break easily if it falls from hand at normal height and stop working)
    2) Pure Android (both Samsung and HTC push bloatware apps which you can't remove until you root)
    3) Amount of Free RAM (Due to pure android it have better app management and it will not hang until you make internal memory full)
    4) Screen Protection (In Moto E I never need a screen guard)

Moto E come with fixed focus camera without LED flash which is only minus point of it but as you want for testing then go for it.

    Good Luck

Good choice after all. Are you satisfied with it? I guess it's powerful enough for app testing...

It'll never have a sim card, it might be used for music but it's #1 job is app testing and so long as the version of android it has is pure enough I'll be happy.

The version will get outdated and you might not be able to publish newer games as Android does not support their devices very good...

That's cool, my apps are relatively simple and don't need the newer tech. Certainly not as demanding as games.
