In future, Jenn, any diamonds or similar expensive gifts that you decide to hurl into raging water you can mail to me. I'll even pay postage, because I'm a nice guy :)

Aha! That's the doorbell. My tweed has arrived.

See, for me buying rings in a no no. I just don't do it. I will do earings, bracelets etc, but the rings definately not. I think it symbolises something that I don't want to accept, especially when I know it isn't going to happen. Heh. Personally, i'd rather spend my money on food; but thats just me :)

lol Will do Keith. ;) I've destroyed / disposed of jewelry several times in the past... only one diamond I can think of though, and that was my engagement ring. I can only think of two other diamond pieces I've had as of now anyway, and I believe I just gave those back, b/c I didn't completely despise the guy, although still didn't want them around.

Drew... I don't think women expect rings and such in a general sense, unless it's an engagement kind of thing. :) I don't even think most expect jewelry most of the time. Personally, I find jewelry to be rather boring, and it would rarely impress me. I can't stand guys who think they're being romantic and sweet by buying flowers, candy, jewelry, etc. at all the "right" times. It's just completely unoriginal. In my case, I'd generally find it "sweeter" if he knew me well enough to pick up a book that he'd just know I'd like, or if he'd do simple things like helping me carry something, or helping me work on my car when I need to, so I'm not doing it alone... just random anyday kind of things. Unfortunately, I've yet to find a man who's both reasonably intellectual and good with his hands at the same time. lol I'm sure I'm not the only one... jewelry is pretty far from being a necessity. ;)

Nah, I don't really like jewelry either. A guy gave me jewelry once for Valentine's Day... don't get me wrong, it was really nice, but we broke up and I purposely "lost" the jewelry so I didn't have to see it anymore. I couldn't really throw it out or give it back to the guy (I have a strange emotional attachment to things people give me, regardless of what it is) so I just forgot about it.

I'm with Jenn though. I just want a guy who can do anyday things with me. I don't need flowers. I don't need candy. I don't need jewelry.

Exactly. For each woman that's a jewelry whore, there's another woman who could care less about that kind of thing. Jenn and I are prime examples of this, and I KNOW we are not the only two women in the world who think that way :p

You don't reflect the majority of women, seriously.

Actually, I have just moved and realize that things are different everywhere you go. I guess California is full of gold diggers more than many places.

That's a definite possibility... base it on the community property laws (or whatever the heck it is out there)... although Denise is from Cali, and she's not one. ;)

HA HA HA... yes, can you honestly picture me as a gold digger, Jenn? I mean, seriously now. :p I am definitely not one of those.

Well, not all women are golddiggers, but some of the non golddiggers can turn into shopping machines running up the credit card bill skyhigh. It's not something intentionally done, I just think it's somehow in women's genes to just go for it and throw cash out of the window. ;)

first of all we assume we are talking about mature women. and I'm not talking about the age factor.
I think they want security (physical and financial), love and respect

lol Women being shopaholics is another pretty bad stereotype. Actually, I was just reading a few days ago about holiday shopping habits, and it was actually men who tend to break the bank around Christmas. ;) Shopping is more of a social thing than a "spending money" thing. I know a lot of women who can spend all day at a mall with friends and not buy a thing... they're content "window shopping" and just having fun. On the other hand, when you remove the golddigger group, if a woman is earning her own money, and taking care of her responsibilities first, I don't see anything at all wrong with her spending as much of what's left as she wants to. The difference is that women tend to like buying lots of smaller things, and men tend to buy large ticket items... I really don't think it's that they necessarily shop less... they just shop "in their minds" first, deciding what they want, and they pick it up. They don't need the social aspect.

What women want? It's all a matter of priorities. Last week I was ogling some nice neat little bums on the telly and wishing I was thirty years younger. This week I'll throw myself at the feet of any man who can install my new gas cooker before Christmas.
