THAT is ridiculous!! First google pays terrorists and now they kill cnets editors. Whats next president assassination?

If just if this is correct that Yahoo gives better directions. THE GUY USED GOOGLE if he actually did. He did it all himself and anything that happened to him because of it was his fault and no one elses. It says in the agreement that Google is not responsible for how the info is used. I am about sick of retard people who can't think on their own who have to come up with wild ideas to blame something on when we all know the guy did it all on his own and took that risk. He took the risk and he knew it.

When in actual factuality all evidence points to that he used a plain paper map. Not google. This is a rumor spread by some gossip-happy freak. Why is everyone so quick to believe trash?

"Update: The latest wire story clarifies that the couple used a plain old paper map. The accuracy of online maps is a still an interesting topic, but accuracy and completeness of information is not an issue unique to online services. Another question coming up is whether the map the Kims used had a warning about winter conditions"

Note: genkied I am not screaming at you. Just the idea.

I don't think this is silly at all. Someone has died that didn't have to. Yeah Google is not to blame but this is definitely not silly.

Visio - we get that he didn't use Google but don't blame the guy for his death. A vandal broke the gate that lead to this tragedy. You should get all of the facts before posting about this tragedy that has taken a father from a wife and two young girls.

Google has nothing to do with this

How can you blame Google for this?

I don't think anyone on this thread is blaming google. They were just reporting an inaccurate news report that was blaming google.

For someone who was a senior editor at CNET, you would think he would have a portable GPS.

Yeah that is the sad thing about it. But one wonders if the GPS would have warned him about that road not being used in the winter time.

Maybe it would have helped - who knows one can only think what could have been.

    This is retarded sh1t.

Its basically saying they may or may not have gotten bad directions from an online mapping service which they may or may not have used.

    Its pure speculation.

GPS coordinates don't give updated real-time info. They are only used for primarily pre-mapped destinations that are fixed.

Now you are gonna end up with fat people that sue Google for listing fast food as the best food for them or some such garbage. Google told me it was OK and now look at me. The sad thing is this scenario is VERY possible.

Folks this is exactly what is wrong with society today blame someone else. I may have done the same thing myself if faced with the same circumstances ... try to hike out to save my family. In my opinion Mr. Kim was a hero as he did what he felt was neccesary by sacrificing his own life to save his family.
There was no right answer about what Mr. Kim should have done except from the experts after the final result. Should he have been the one to retieve help as opposed to an arial sighting we would have probably never heard from the experts on what the correct thing to do would have been to stay with the vehicle.
I used a popular maping software about 10 years ago when I went across country and it was inaacurate and I ended up heading the wrong direction and set me back about one hour untill I bought a paper map.

Dude I knew the guy. Not well as a friend, business partner or anything but I did like him. I am not saying anything about his death. I think that was tragic but Google had nothing to do with it.

If he had had a gps he would have made it out alive. He did not have one.

Visio - I don't get you sometimes - you stated that it was his fault - so you are saying something about his death. And what does this mean I knew him but not as a friend, business partner - so like everyone else who knew of him via cnet then?

And yeah we get it doesn't have anything to do with Google.

I knew him more than just his articles. I had asked his advice before on certain things and unlike some guys in positions like that he did respond. He was a great guy. Instead of arguing about this why not support the family so here is the link: http://www.jamesandkati.com/
