About 8 years ago, there was a huge demand for directories, links and PageRank. In todays world of internet marketing, Please explain why: Are directories viewed as link farms in the eyes of Google? Are we seeing sunset for directories in next couple of years? I believe DMOZ is already dead, so as many other popular web directories.
Sunset for directories done came and went. Really, who wants to submit to any directory today? Unless it is a specific type that fits your business?
I've been a freelancer for years, one of my clients once gave me a list of more than 100 directories to submit his websites on, from this experience I can say that they're not that important for driving traffic, maybe for backlinks but I believe there is better places from where you can get better quality backlinks, some directories were accepting applications automatically, which means they were full of websites and no one will ever came across yours unless you pay some fees to feature it (if payment option is available), while some were reviewing applications, but taking around 1 - 3 months to do so, sometimes more, you again need to pay for a quick review.. Directories are no longer popular, I don't think they deserve to spend money on or even a free application, except if you own a local business..
It is fading away in terms of driving traffic to your websites but if you are looking for more backlinks then directories are the way to go and will help to increase those backlinks.
DMOZ killed themselves by requiring authentication above and beyond most SEs even. Backlinks are good but if directories' "backlinks" do not get included into a Google search algorithm then it is worthless. The juice I get best for backlinks is all the WordPress themes I build and people leave the backlink in the footer of the theme. That is about 60% of my backlink juice.
I recently submitted my site to dmoz because as I checked my competitor they are listed on it. But other regular directories I didn't.
Actually, Everything in this world are at-least more then O value, just you need to know how to use to get the value. In my personal opinion, Directories are still some value and you need to know how to use them.
Nope. That is not accurate. Why out in the effort to get maybe a miniscule result that will no longer be valid in the future. Directories will generally hurt your SEO efforts. If your SEO efforts are focused on forum links and directories, then you are not doing SEO right. I hate to be rude, not trying to come off that way at all. I just don't want people focusing on the wrong aspects of SEO. DigitalPoint is a hotbed of awful SEO advice. To start learning better SEO visit copyblogger.com/seo-copywriting/ and register to get the free book called "How to Create Compelling Content that Ranks Well in Search Engines" If my link don't show up then google that title. No, it is not my site. If you are not familar with that Blog then i highly suggest it. I see many people on here trying to learn SEO and then they have crappy content. Seriously, read that book first. It is free.
Now this is great advice. He built a theme that people want to use and then he gets links back from it from sites. If you build something regardless of if it is an article, app, service etc, make sure it is something people will want to link too.
WELL, WELL, WELL. I totally agree with you. But i am just telling my belief. Just give me some time to prove. case 1: Site A is doing pure SEO and the competitor of site A will create tons of directory and bad links then will site A penalize with GOOGLE? OK, if you have little time and money, then do not waste time and money to directory links otherwise directory links are worthful and i am using those inks for my site SEO. Just try yourself.
Agree if you're talking about dead on arrival and created to die directories. Even thou 'SEO directories' is an oxymoron, it's definitely applies to farms and people who are running and using them to gain SERP and to spam Search Engines and Internet community with thousands of useless links. fastreplies
I have two Web Directories setup as early as 2007, and both still doing well. I continue to manually review listings and reject submissions if they're not right.
Directories that are low quality sites are considered as spam sites and I think it will gone in the future because of the other mediums that are emerging online.
You see, the vast majority of people have no idea or know what is the difference between "good and bad" directories based on "quality" directories lists they are pushing in posts in this and other forums and SM. If I ask you to name 10 top directories, I can bet you won't come up with more than 5 simply because you and others never engage themselves in deep analyzes of what makes good directories and how to spot them amongst cesspool of dead on arrival directories. gone in the future? I hear that for last 10 or more years and directories are still around. Granted garbage came and went in oblivion, few selected the Best are going to be around after people forget they have posted useless comments about subjects they don't have a slightest ideas in this DP and generally in SM. As to fastreplies
Actually it doesn't matter and I'm concern most is that those are paid. Yell Thompson local Free Index Lacartes Locanto UK Small Business Directory Business Magnet I would wish for that because they are not worth it as a source of information. Only competent directories are still around today. Hmmm.. Can I take the green apple.
