It is a typical WP load of crap that does not come close to validating, and as a commerce page it is pretty much a failure because the page is nothing more than an ad with no real content. Google has been actively removing such no-value thin pages from the index so I would not count on getting much search traffic with that bowl of liquid manure. I guess with such a poor example of a site, it explains the motivation for your tactic of spamming sites by asking non-questions so you can post the link and promotional slogan. Your time might be better spent learning basic coding, instead of trying to generate traffic getting "reviews".
LOL! .. and I thought *I* was paranoid ....hahahaha...... But yeah .. the theme is a bit outdated I guess .. So I'll look into getting a better theme :0) Cheers, Tom.
There we go ... I changed the design on http://www.allonepound.com/ Better, no? :0) Regards, Tom Brett.
Absurdly undersized fixed metric fonts, non-responsive fixed width layout. Painfully slow to watch load with it's 62 separate files, much of which can be blamed on turdpress bloat and jQuery asshattery... though the presence of 35 separate images on a page that seems to only have 18 actual content images certainly isn't helping matters. Being turdpress the markup is some of the most ignorant broken nonsense out there -- as I keep saying time and time again, if you don't know what's wrong with code like this: <div class="menu-bar"> <ul class="menu"> <div class="menu-main-container"><ul id="menu-main" class="menu"><li id="menu-item-191" class="menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page current-menu-item page_item page-item-189 current_page_item menu-item-191"><a href="http://www.allonepound.com/">Home</a></li> <li id="menu-item-188" class="menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-188"><a href="http://www.allonepound.com/ebooks/">Ebooks</a></li> Code (markup): You probably shouldn't be making websites. Endless pointless classes and ID's for nothing, absolute URI's for nothing, that small snippet alone is 500 bytes of code doing 100 bytes job. Applied across the entire HTML it's five to six times what should be used for such a simple layout... The orange on white is below accessibility minimums in terms of contrast, the menu is wrapping to look broken thanks to it having zero plan for handling when the menu doesn't fit and using some rubbish fixed height container and/or background... Laundry list of how not to build a website; though to be fair, 80% of that is turdpress' fault. I would suggest you read my series of articles here: http://www.cutcodedown.com/article/whats_wrong_with_YOUR_website_index Pay particular attention to sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.7, and 2.15 as they directly apply to what you've got here.
nice one death shadow .. very informative and very helpful :0) I like your article on the subject very much :0) Thanks! :0) I will look into your points and see If I can actually do anything about it. I'm not very good at this CSS stuff .. because I started web coding years BEFORE CSS etc .. even existed! and at the time it started I never really "got it".. Maybe it's something I really should take into consideration huh? And yup .. turdpress. lol :0) It's really just a hacked existing "turdpress" template... lol. in other words - I'll look into those issues you raised, (and thanks for raising them!). But ain't gonna promise anything! Thanks, Tom.
Without the ability to do CSS well you are very much handicapped in the modern world of web development you would be wise to invest the small amount of time it takes to learn and apply. Developing without good CSS skills is like trying to landscape a property without any gardening tools. However as long as you are in the WP sphere it probably does not make any difference. 90% of Wordpress sites are crap that should not exist. The other 10% range from marginally usable to low end mediocre. There is no such thing as a great WP site and even professional developers who use it to knock out cheap one offs will never tell you that it is much more the 'Big Mac and fries' of web development.
What other CMS platforms are there that are as "customizable" and as quick as wordpress? aka a CMS with tons of themes and plugins and is open source? it seems I really should get into this css stuff huh? :0)
Customizable... quick... Wordpress... same... sentence... Illogical, illogical. All units relate. All units. Norman, coordinate. I am not programmed to respond in this area... As a rule of thumb I've never seen an off the shelf CMS that was worth a flying purple fish so far as building a business website. Simply put these types of rubbish bloated slow tools only delude people who don't know any better into THINKING they can make a website, when quite clearly they can't. Wordpress, Joomla, "site builders" like Wix -- they're cute if you are making a blog for grandma, but are basically playing Russian roulette with only one empty chamber when it comes to making a site for a business. Indeed -- a LOT of the things you are doing on that page would be ridiculously simplified and far more flexible if you learned it "right". The only problem is most all the off the shelf CMS nonsense doesn't want to actually let you do it. For example, take these stupid fixed images: http://www.allonepound.com/wp-content/themes/tigopedia-reloaded/images/headerbg.gif http://www.allonepound.com/wp-content/themes/tigopedia-reloaded/images/menubg.gif In modern sites those would serve no legitimate purpose as we now have the CSS "border-radius" property. It would also allow those elements to dynamically resize so things like this: Don't happen. It would mean writing less code and having more control. Take the markup for that home page as an example, that entire mess of 53.7k has NO legitimate excuse to be breaking 12k... If I were writing that same page, the HTML would have been more like this: <!DOCTYPE html><html lang="en"><head><meta charset="utf-8"><base href="/"> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, height=device-height, initial-scale=1" > <meta name="keywords" content="ebook, discount, download, categories" > <meta name="description" content="Find Great Ebooks at Huge Discounts, All Instant Downloads" > <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" > <link rel="stylesheet" href="screen.css" media="screen, projection,tv" > <title> All One Pound </title> </head><body> <div id="top"> <h1> <a href="/"> Many Great E-Books - All One Pound<br> <small>Learn something new, there's something for everyone!</small> </a> </h1> <ul id="mainMenu"> <li><a href="/">Home</a></li> <li><a href="ebooks/">Ebooks</a></li> <li><a href="faq/">FAQ</a></li> <li><a href="contact-us/">Contact us</a></li> <li><a href="terms/">Terms</a></li> <li><a href="privacy-policy/">Privacy Policy</a></li> <li><a href="sitemap/">Sitemap</a></li> <li><a href="shopping-cart/">Shopping Cart</a></li> <li><a href="shopping-cart/checkout/">Checkout</a></li> <li><a href="downloads/">Downloads</a></li> </ul> <div class="columnWrapper"> <div id="contentWrapper"><div id="content"> <div class="subSection"> <h2> Find Great Ebooks at Huge Discounts - All Instant Downloads </h2> <div id="bestSellers"> <h3>Best sellers:</h3> <div>Displaying 1-1 of 1</div> <h4> <a href="books/the-horse-racing-betting-system/"> <span>The Horse Racing Betting System</span> <img src="images/B003.jpg" alt="The Horse Racing Betting System"> </a> </h4> <p> This is a unique betting system guaranteed to earn you any thing from $10-$1000 + per month. your entire SITE given the simplicity of the content that there would be any reason to have more than 32k of CSS in one file... the only "needed" scripttardery being for the advert box. Though honestly as a site actually trying to sell things, why are you wasting time advertising other people's ****, isn't that just a little counterproductive? External CSS lets you separate out presentation so you can better leverage cache -- which is why 99.99999% of the time people use the <style> tag or style="" attribute they are doing so out of ignorance. It lets you do a LOT of visual effects that people waste images on without using images. In general it's a cleaner, faster loading and more accessible way of building a website. But good luck convincing any rubbish off the shelf template or the sleazeball shits who vomit up crap at whorehouses like ThemeForest or TemplateMonster of that. A hefty chunk of why "themes" and "plugins" are scam artist nube bait that no serious business would use apart from not knowing enough about the Web to even have a site in the first place.
Every week we get questions posted by wannabes who though they would try to do a web site with some "easy to use" off the shelf crap. Now they want to change how thing look or behave. They spend 2 or 3 days; maybe even a week fighting with the theme/plugin crap that let them throw up some trash quickly. If they were controlling their own code instead of being controlled by the tools the changes would take between 10 seconds and 2 minutes. So instead of sitting down at there computer for a couple of minutes they end up with days of frustration trying to find a hack to disable a bit from the crapware. If they find something it will damage the code even further and make the next change even more difficult until the whole thing melts down into a pool of liquid manure. "easy to use" is an illusion. It is actually more like "quick and dirty trash generation". The actually "easy to use" approach involves a small investment of time to learn HTML and CSS, and a passing understanding of how to use Javascript. With those in your toolbox; it now is not only easy; the maintenance takes seconds and minutes for simple changes; and in the end every web page requires changes at some point; unless the owner does not really care about it.
There we go now .. I changed the menu on http://www.allonepound.com/ To a more simple and effective one!
A little bit of cosmetic change is not going to do much for you. The validator still list a boatload of errors, and that is with a transitional doctype. I hate to think how many it would be if you were validating to a real standard. Plus it is so thin on content that you are not going to impress the SE crawlers. Trying to clean up a site develop with trashware is like trying to wash your dishes in a cesspool. That kind of stuff can almost never be saved without getting rid of the junk tools/plugins/themes/frameworks/CMS and actually re-writing using the only real tool you need for such a task; a good (no bullshit wysiwyg effects) text editor.
I don't know, I had a quick look. I am not a website specialist. The quick look was from a buyers perspective. First it looks all very cheap. Second why should I buy a book from you? There is amazon and their service is so much better! I cannot even have a look in your books, no reviews no nothing. I would not buy simple. Sorry for that. I think you are fighting goliath. I would figure out a new business idea.
