Too fancy, too big, too hard to integrate into a page theme thanks to it's oddball aspect ratio... and would probably look horrible at the ~64px or shorter it would likely be scaled to.

Artistically it looks more like the opening screen for a popCap game and is very pretty, but from a web DESIGN perspective it's rubbish.

... and when I say design I mean taking into account things like accessibility, functionality, user interaction, and not just the artsy graphics crap people who know jack about design seem to be calling "web design" these days.

That said I'm a huge fan of hex/honecomb backgrounds -- but I'm weird about that.

What you've said was true I believe. It would be hard to make a layout to match. I think the only way it could work if it was for a specific theme such as Starcraft 2.

You were dead on when you said it looked like a popCap game. Here is the image I based it off of:

I'm not sure what's actually going on here.
You've made a logo/banner for a forum but you haven't considered what it would look like if the colours/style were applied to the forum as a whole admit that it "would be hard" to do.
You admit you've ripped off another design.
How were you planning to use this logo?

FWIW I found the glints or whatever they're called a little too exaggerated

This was just a little project I did to better my photoshop skills.

I wouldn't say I "ripped off" another design, I used similar colors and patterns, but everything was recreated originally by me. Did Facebook "ripoff" myspace? Maybe, but aren't all products based off another somehow, someway?

If I were to use this logo, it would have that header on the top of the page. (let's say a forum), then I would style the fonts/colors/theme to match the logo.

I agree with the sparkles. I didn't put much thought process in, when I made them.

I'm not a fan, it looks like web design from the early 2000's and the yellow is a bit muddy rather than gold.

However, it's great that you're working to improve your Photoshop skills, it's definitely a hard skill to master. Have you visited dribbble.com before? It's an online community for graphic designers, you'll be able to see other peoples designs, see current trends and learn from them too, I highly recommend it.

No offense, but doing a logo to improve Photoshop skills is a bit... weird to me. Photoshop is not meant for logo-creation. For that, we have Illustrator. Scalable vectors, instead of pixel-based mud (Photoshop). Photoshop is for manipulating images (originally) or create semi-photorealistic/artsy content. Not for creating things that SHOULD be vector images to begin with.
As for the logo itself, I'm not really a fan. It's too dated (the lens-flares, the colors) and a logo (to me, at least) should always be made in at least 4 different color-spaces - original, negative, black and white and grayscale. If it doesn't work in all those different styles, it doesn't work, and you start over.

Why not make it the proper size and show us what it would look like in place of the current logo?

Now that would be a good use of Photoshop.

In my opinion it should be either in a green font or a white one. Blue does not match the forum layout.

Too flashy for a forum that talks marketing.
You need to put marketing concept in it.
