Diversifying Your Earnings

I have heard many people talking about "Don't Keep All Your Eggs in One Basket (adsense)".

Two months back I reviewed my earnings and found out that 85% of my earnings are from adsense. So I decided to bring that percentage down to about 50%. Two months are ending tomorrow and I think this has just come down to around 55% or so. I am happy with that percentage now. :)

I am using following alternatives (not in any order):
    1. casalemeda (using more of it now.)
    2. adbrite on sites where google was not performing well.
    3. some affiliate programs from affiliatefuel and azoogleads.
    4. text-link-ads.com (they are now bringing around 10% of my rev.)
    5. direct link selling (tags/directory-listings/links/blog-posts)
    6. providing SEO services to other members.

So what is your adsense percent? Do you use other methods as well?

    Nice little article. :)

I'm relatively new to the internet world (just over a year of experience) and I have been heavily dependent on AdSense earnings. I've been thinking that I need to diversify a lot more...

I'm down from 100% adsense to about 75-80%, using direct advertising, link sales and affiliate schemes.

    I'm aiming for 50% by mid 2007.

I've found I needs different skills - adsense just needs content, whereas direct advertising and affiliate sales need a more targetted approach - so I'm needing to learn new skills. This is slowing me down a bit!

Thanks for your success story. At the moment I am 100% from adsense...can't imagine any other alternative would work on my site.

I think its key that people diversify if they want to make the internet their sole or primary income. I am interested in No. 2 - does adbrite really outperform adsense on some sites?

    Very rarely.

In my case, I had a site on "Vida Guerra" and google stopped serving ads on it. Then I used adbrite (avnads.com in fact, but they are same). adbrite didn't perform well for first 2 weeks (I think it takes time), but after that I am getting regular subscriptions as the site gets quite good amount of traffic. I also used ZangoCash videos on the site to earn some extra.

I think I'm another with Adsense at about 80%, simply because it performs so much better on certain sites. Thanks for bringing this up, Jim, because it's easy to rely too much on one income source which is essentially not all that stable.

I think it doesn't do to have any one income source at more than 40%. If you do get in that situation the extra money coming in from your highest earner should probably be treated as temporary good fortune that may not last, rather than something to rely on for your mortgate and so on.

    Hi Jimkarter,

First of all I'dd like to say that I really liked your post, members like you keep this forum going!.

As for me 30% of my revenue comes from adsense.
But I would like to bring it up to 50% .
This is because In my opinion Adsense is the best ppc program for international users. (Correct me if i'm mistaking.. )

Thats interesting! Some people want to reduce their dependence on adsense, while you want to increase it.
