Going to create informative portal about India what you this which extension is best for this portal...
Mydomain dot com
mydomain dot co in
mydomain dot in

Please vote here want to see which one get maximum vote.... My vote is going to .com and your??

 

if you are going to target only in india don't go for dot com. Dot com is for global target
go for dot in as dot in can outrank competitors. Don't go for mydomain dot co in

mydomain dot in - this is the best ( short extension) better

 

It makes no difference in terms of SEO for Google and I agree with Rule on the domain extension.

 

Well, You are wrong Kathy domain extension is playing good roll in terms of SEO when you are targeting particular country.

I was reading and watching Matt Cutts videos where he was saying the TLD made no difference in terms of Google ranking.
I may be wrong as regards to targeting a particular country, but am happy to learn more, can you point me to an article that explains this.

 

Kathy you need to know that Google ranking factors depends lot on signals = Positive signals!
Well Kathy the point is that if you have a domain extension like co.uk or co.au it is a signal to google that its for that country.
.COM is global it can be targeted, its not an issue, but when it comes to country based targeting for example if i am in uk, and i want to target only uk competitors then i would prefer a .co.uk domain and not .com domain. Its like a signal that you are giving to google!
The more positive and clear signals u give the better its for Google! You need to make things easy for google

@ Kathy if you are targeting any country then your extension as well as your hosting n IP address should be on same country as like I'm leaving in India and my client want promote his site in UK then I have to buy domain like .co.uk + UK web hosting host my domain there then start SEO work on it

Well. Me personally will choose the .com one, as this is the first domain extension I would try if I only remember the domain name! But it depends on you of course!

 

normally extension doesn't matter but i prefer dot com domains.

You can go with .com and use Google Search Console to specify which country you are targeting as well.
In case you change your mind later on and want to expand the site to other countries and not just India.
