ok, agreed with you, then when its a contest dont you think everyone will link to the entry to win it? you know anyone wants to win the contest, and yes if you are running a contest to find which is the best one then the way i posted in this post is the best deal - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1918607&postcount=63 On the basis that i do the link building? regarding the rules > http://www.directorycontest.com/?page_id=4 > which redirects to > http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=173183 and in this threads first post leads back again to directorycontest.com
Exactly. This is not a contest to see who spams the best, it's a contest to see which directory benefits listings the best and is most worthy to submit to. A lot of directories are being proven to be worth not what they charge, while others are finally getting a chance to shine. So as far as I am concerned, backed up by personal research, I am happy to show everyone which directories are really a waste of time. I pay a lot for submissions and want to know which directories to submit to to get the most benefit for my clients and my own sites. It's truly hilarious to see the ones on page 200 of the results trying to blame the contest for their shortcoming
You say that "but doing it for the sole purpose of winning the contest" ..... This means that you are trying to say that we should participate in the contest but cannot try to win..... ???
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1700763&postcount=17 No offence with sevenseek owner but i do remember he started the link exchange in the begining of the contest, and i can show that every directory here got link backs. Now do you want to tell me that this is not a contest and the legit people dont have more than 1 backlink which comes from the category where the listing is listed? And if any of the contest entries have a backlink they are disqualified? Amit
Its natural that everyone here is to win the contest and no one I hope is here who will be using unethical ways to get in top results. And if there are then you should surely talk and disqualify those websites. But whats the use of just disqualifying website if they are using internal side wide linking or not. This contest will surely qualify the best link building guys. And hence the one who will win it if going to be a expert in link building. But what now I can see here is that you are trying to just stop people from building links may be. Means adding rules like not adding sidewide links and all. Doesnt sound good to me. Geting into top result is simple collecting links, its true and the one who can do it will win. Thats too true. But its very unfair to say this and rejecting websites even if you havent still created a page where you show the clearly defined rules. It seem that here its all going wrong. This contest doesnt sound REAL WINNER FRIENDLY CONTEST. And you havent replied to many of the questions here. Thats clear...and I dont see the reasons why (Yeh, surely I will point out the question as you point me out, No problem.)
The more I read justifications for wrong doing, the more upset I get. Honestly, instead of trying to pull a fast one of us, work on your directories.
amit and anyone else that seems confused. Mike is not talking about backlinks to your directory or the listing within it. Although getting backlinks to the contest listing is actually SEO and not what the contest is about, there is no real way of policing it and stopping it. What Mike is saying is that you cannot do things like place sitewide links on your directory that point to the contest listing in it. That makes google think your directory is all about the contest and gives you a higher rank for those terms. Looking at gii: I see a sitewide link in your left menu that points to your entry details page. CLEAR VIOLATION. The reason it is a violation is that you do not do the same thing for every other listing in your directory.
Ding!!! Ding!! Ding!, that is and should be everyones wake up call. Thank you for your post Jamey. You already know my stance on how everyone is trying to manipulate the contest, and even taking it as far as This, which should be deemed as pathetic. Nothing against romow personally, but trying to manipulate a contest and then trying to manipulate people into buying into a directory of misconducted ways of going about the contest based on where the current standing results were displaying, should be frowned upon and not overlook by anybody, because its true deception. Maybe nobody else will call things out, but guess what...I will. I don't play favoritism. I play honesty.
The rule was not JUST added. Mike only had to clarify it because many people do not seem to get the meaning of "Contest to see what directory benefits NORMAL listings within it"
The worst thing is that the sitewides are not saying something like "directory contest", the anchor text is the keyword everyone is after, which is directorycontest.com If anyone wants to truly justify doing that, then you are in the wrong business. Sure some have pushed the limits and that is what seo is all about. But seeing that some are justifying it and trying to play us all for idiots, I have decided that 3 directories are now banned from the contest. Sorry, guys! Good luck to everyone remaining and working hard on your directories and participating in the best Directory Contest ever. - Mike
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1704896&postcount=60 Mike tell me you said we can do anything in this contest except having a category named DirectoryContest.com http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1919246&postcount=82 Now i see 2 different replies from you Mike and which are on the same issue. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1705099&postcount=63 Where in the contest rules is a post that no sitewide links, although its already removed now Mike the contest keyword i guess was "directorycontest.com" and i need some time and i will show you which directories can be banned, and i will prove its 100% Directories Amit
That's amusing. You didn't listen to me and others and now your "Directory Contest" has turned into another failing SEO Contest with many discrepancies in the rules. Worthless? Far from it. It's not my fault you cannot take constructive criticism.
EXACTLY what I am saying. Owners should have listed the contest in their directory and then forgot about it. By TRYING to win, they are performing SEO for the contest listing that they do not do for EVERY other listing.
then i hope you have a reply for this too - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1704896&postcount=60
Excuse me Blogmaster, I am not a participant of your contest. I just was reading the thread and observed the things that I found were going wrong here. Why would people like to justify for anything which doesnt seems un-justified even by Google. Is Google alogrithm wrong here. Well are the Link Builder who are trying to get there hands on this contest are wrong people and doing link building in wrong way? Are those who get into the top results arent qualified? Arent all those the top Link Builder who know what they are doing is right. Or seems that you simply want people who are weak in link building to try there hands and expand the contest. What is exactly going on. I am really confused. I wrote there and well found that no response has been answered to my questions. Instead hmmm just some justification from your side itself.
He is talking about BACKLINKS amit. Backlinks are a far cry different than sitewides on your own directory.
One simple question to answer Mike : If sitewide links from external sites are allowed why are sitewide links from the same site not allowed ??? I agree both are against the actual moto of the contest .... but allowing one and disallowing the other is just HIGHLY unfair.
