What does this site look like to you?

    Hey guys, Just need a bit of help testing something for my website.

    This is my problem and it's really doing my head in When someone visits my site for the first time it gets stuck on loading google fonts.

    [IMG]

    This only happens when the site is visited for the first time and my hosting provider nor the theme designer can figure it out.... It's literally killing my site, every new visitor just leaves (I think). Although I'm getting bounce rates of 9% I'm going to assume that's not accurate.

    Anyhow, point is I need to see what other people see. I've tried visiting the site on different IPs and still have the problem. It's fine after the first visit because it gets cached in the browser, but problem is the first visits takes a long time to load fonts. Not only that my pop ups etc don't work until the fonts loaded... super annoying, even though they are set to pop up when they exit the browser.

    So I need to see what other people see, It would be much appreciated if a few people could visit the site and tell me what they see for the first 2 seconds at least. Best if you haven't visited before or clear browser cache. Firefox and Safari seem to be the worst

    Just need you to tell me if you seen picture 1 or 2. Cheers will help me out a lot in trying to figure this bullshit issue out.

    I experience that slow loading from Google's Fonts and APIs from time to time. Often, it happens immediately after I disconnect and reconnect from the internet. Just one more reason why I hate Google and hate third-party hosted resources. (Wordpress does this Google Fonts thing and I cannot stand it.) If the font license terms indicate it is free to use, you may want to consider downloading the font and serving it from your own website. Google Fonts is another tracking vector that Google uses to monitor which websites your visitors visit so it can show them relevant ads should they visit another site that uses Adsense.

    That bounce rate is very low. You should be able to see how many pages the average visitor views (I assumed you would be using Google Analytics but you are not).

    The first visit was fast for me. I will try again later. It could vary depending on location as I believe Google serves these font files from its content delivery network based on visitor location. So it can vary.

    I got no pop when I left your page.

    I cleared my cache, closed my browser, disconnected from the internet and reconnected and tested your site and it loaded fast. I had no problems with slow font loading.

    Your web page looks like the second picture you posted, fonts are without serifs.

    No problems viewing the page with Google Fonts on first visit. No popup on exit, but that might just have been blocked by Adblock. But yes, don't use Google to host your fonts? Just serve them from your own server instead?

    It looks like the typical garbage trainwreck of turdpress, html-5tardery, scripttardery and "accessibility, what's that" which occurs when off the shelf technologies are crapped together any-old-way.

    If the goofy illegible webfont crap is causing slow loads and losing users, well... you ever heard the Groucho Marx joke "doctor, doctor, it hurts when I do this!"?

    Really that page has a lot of annoyances that would in my book make it bounce city; the goofy webfonts just being the cherry on the manure-cake. The endless pointless reliance on scripttardery, goofy pathetically broken attempt at being responsive, px metric fonts in a non-elastic layout, borderline illegible colour contrasts on some elements -- and even that is just the icing.

    Your front page only has 3.2k of actual plaintext content and barely over a dozen content images, what in blazes does it need 138k of markup for? that's EASILY ten times or more the code needed for such a simple page -- you mix in the batshit crazy 700k of scripttardery in eight files and external CSS coming to 263k in 4 files and you have developer ineptitude of the highest order; the raw file count alone of 34 separate files coming to a ridiculout 1.7 megabytes FOR THAT (and FOR WHAT?!?) means I'd not be the least bit surprised if more than half your traffic bounced before the page even finished loading.

    Though the contents of the TITLE tag and META[description] alone would make me bounce or not even click on a SERP link to the page just because the very topic sets off my scammy sense so...

    For what I'm seeing for content I see no legitimate reason for that page to be more than 12k of markup, for the entire site to use more than 32k of CSS, and I'm not seeing a blasted thing other than perhaps the social media stuff that I'd be bothering to even have scripting for.

    It's a laundry list of how NOT to build a website, but of course that's what I FULLY expect these days when I see turdpress, a HTML 5 doctype, and idioitic halfwit mouth-breathing dumbass bullshit like jQuery being used to build a site.

    Quite evident by nonsense like this:
    <body
    id="blog" class="home blog main" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/WebPage">
    <header
    class="main-header" role="banner" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/WPHeader"><div
    class="container"><div
    id="header"><div
    class="logo-wrap"><h1 id="logo" class="image-logo" itemprop="headline">

    href="http://www.onlinedimes.com"><img
    src="http://www.onlinedimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Logo1.png" alt=""></a></h1>
    Code (markup):
    or this:

    <div
    class="secondary-navigation" role="navigation" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/SiteNavigationElement">
    <a
    href="#" id="pull" class="toggle-mobile-menu">Menu</a>
    <nav
    id="navigation" class="clearfix mobile-menu-wrapper"><ul
    id="menu-menu" class="menu clearfix"><li
    id="menu-item-38" class="menu-item menu-item-type-custom menu-item-object-custom current-menu-item current_page_item menu-item-home"><a
    href="http://www.onlinedimes.com/">Home</a></li>
    Code (markup):
    this:

    <header><h2 class="title front-view-title" itemprop="headline"><a
    href="http://www.onlinedimes.com/low-clicks-facebook/" title="How You Can Find Hidden Keywords on Facebook in Minutes.">How You Can Find Hidden Keywords on Facebook in Minutes.</a></h2>
    Code (markup):
    or worse outright dumbass garbage like this:
    <div
    id="om-lightbox-clean-slate-optin-bullets" data-om-action="editable" data-om-field="bullet"><ul><li><div
    class="om-arrow" style="border-left-color:#ff6201">&nbsp;</div>
    50 <span
    style="font-weight:bold;">FREE</span> Wordpress themes &amp; templates</li><li><div
    class="om-arrow" style="border-left-color:#ff6201">&nbsp;</div>
    Over 300 fonts you can use for anything you like&nbsp;</li><li><div
    class="om-arrow" style="border-left-color:#ff6201">&nbsp;</div>
    4 website banner packs that you can customize</li><li><div
    class="om-arrow" style="border-left-color:#ff6201">&nbsp;</div>
    <span
    style="font-weight:bold">FREE </span>fresh and clean social Icons</li><li><div
    class="om-arrow" style="border-left-color:#ff6201">&nbsp;</div>
    <span
    style="font-weight:bold">AND SO MUCH MORE!</span></li></ul></div>
    Code (markup):
    If you don't know what's wrong with those, you have NO business building websites or even having a website in the first place.

    JUST to show you what I mean, if I had written that same page there is NO excuse for the HTML of it to be significantly more than this other than developer ineptitude and blindly pasting together code any-old-way.

    Code (markup):
    ... and honestly that might be overkill. EVERYTHING else you have done there belongs in maybe 32 to 48k of CSS for the entire site and maybe, MAYBE 16k of JS just to AJAX send the second form. I don't see ANYTHING warranting that giant bloated mess of code apart from outright developer ignorance and ineptitude -- mind you MOST of that isn't your fault, you've been duped into thinking that slapping together turdpress, jqueery and a bunch of plugins will make a succesful website.

    It doesn't, no matter how many sleazy scam artists and lazy jacktards not qualified to open their traps on the subject have taken over the industry and taken a giant dump on it from orbit!

    Lol who said I built the website? I didn't. I have no idea how to code just like most people hence why most of us go with "turdpress" we can't all be pro coders. Although Wordpress is just some click and go bullshit that's what I like to use. Found the issue anyways. As for the titles I haven't I haven't optimized them yet so relax. I think you have a vendetta against WordPress. I don't care about the home page in SERPS right now anyways, just threw it there so it wasn't blank for now.

    The site actually loads fine. The only issue I was asking about was the fonts. Found out it was an external issue... I didn't need all the other stuff you wrote as I already knew about that and the site isn't even finished.. I think we should just stay on the topic of the fonts issue since that's what I asked about. I'm no chump noob I knew about everything you mentioned and it will be worked on.

    As for the bounce I'm getting barely any bounces... people are staying on the site and it's loading fine for them apart from that guy up the top but turns out CloudFlare was down for a bit. This is about the fonts, the accual pages load fine but google fonts is a laggy sack of shit. I don't need to see the other stuff, although I admire the passion.

    I haven't been duped into anything I know how shittily WordPress can be. The website actually got a huge spike in traffic last week and with an average bounce rate of 9% and sales picking up I wouldn't exactly call the website unsuccessful. Majority, of the websites on the internet today use shitty coded WordPress and they're very successful. In fact according to my competitors code/loaditmes mine is by far the better one.

    I personally think you looked into it a bit too much but neither the less I appreciate the feedback because it's reply's like that that help people.

    Cheers

    Hence my opening sentence -- it looks like you grabbed a bunch of off the shelf 'solutions' and slapped them together. Sadly that is not a recipe for success no matter how many alleged "experts" out there will try to scam you into thinking it is.

    Which sadly means if you are building anything more complex than a blog for grandma, you probably shouldn't be building a website -- particularly if you are serious about it in a business type situation.

    When it comes to off the shelf solutions, I'm a bit of an equal opportunity hater; it's like the old SNL skit where Pat Nixon says "Dick wasn't anti-semetic, he hated all minorities". You take a look at the outright incompetance shown in every aspect of it's code, and anyone who knows how to build a website properly should be in outright HORROR of the idiotic bloated halfwit nonsense it has the giant set of brass to call HTML, much less the hodge-podge of broken garbage

    Turdpress is just the easiest target because of its inexplicable popularity and effectively being ubiquitous; that ANYONE is DUMB ENOUGH to use it by choice... well... it's either REALLY good propaganda, just plain ignorance, or outright brain damage! Of course though, popular doesn't mean good, just look at garbage like "50 shades" or your typical cookie-cutter female pop vocalist like Beyonce that leaves you asking how the **** is this music?!?.

    "For people who know nothing about websites BY people who know nothing about websites" is NOT a recipe for long term success. There's a reason to me most of these CMS and other off the shelf "framework" type solutions are at best crutches for the inept, at worst outright scams meant to dupe the ignorant into throwing money away by making them THINK they can have a website...

    To the point you might as well light a few dozen fat stacks of banded Bennies on fire for all the 'profit' the result should be making long term.

    It doesn't here -- but again one should NEVER trust how fast (or slow) it loads at any single location as a indication of how fast the site is; it comes down to filesizes and quite often more importantly file counts. It's all about the math and gauging worst case and 'real world average' since there are a whole slew of things ranging from geographical distance, to backbone topology, to local traffic (at either end) that can be the difference between the same page loading for one person in under a second and another person having it take two minutes.

    Again, try uploading 100 separate 10k files via FTP and compare how long that takes to uploading a single 1 megabyte file. Handshaking, it'll bite you EVERY time and it's why these systems that crap together ENDLESS separate scripts and CSS files are the number one cause of sites being bigger bloated messes than the crap from 18 years ago -- again the industry seems bound and determined to drag everything back to the bleeding edge of pre-strict 1997 development practices ignoring EVERY bit of actual progress since.

    The latter being the real head-scratcher since per media target there's no legitimate excuse to have more than two files totaling 64k for an ENTIRE website (half that being a more realistic goal) other than developer ineptitude of such magnitude, such utter and complete stupidity, it makes mouth-breathing halfwits like Ken Ham look like Ruth Lawrence.
