I'm surprised at some people here calling Google a monopoly because it has "power". From wikipedia: "exists when a specific person or enterprise is the only supplier of a particular commodity" The big question, is Google the only supplier of their/products or searches? Do they prevent other businesses from competing? Yes, they know they have a lot of power and they make it a point to keep us all reminded of that. But again, how do they do that? They do it by providing a service that everyone uses, be it because of its quality or because people are "used" to using it. The fact remains that people gave them their power, and people are the ones who allow Google to maintain that power. Gigantic companies that some invincible come and go all the time. When people do not get what they want from Google, they'll look for alternatives. But till then, Google has the advantage.
This is the case in the last couple of years, even before the penguins and pandas, google didn't have decent opponent in the search engine world. The problem is that there is nobody who will beat them, at least in the next couple of years. Even the yahoo and bing partnership sound funny when we all know how big Google is
They do have a movie about them.. enough said. The only reason most people use google it is accurate and fast. Yahoo and Bing are slow and cluttered and have more ads. I think even the flow of typing "google" is fast. That is just the stupid stuff that makes them popular.
I'd have to agree with that. Google is fast, and it's very good there is no doubt about it. Not just their search, but all their products are good. There are a few problems I see with google. If you get penalties, your site is pretty much out of luck since just about everyone uses google search. They can change the rules whenever they very well please and there is nothing we can do about it. One other thing, god forbid one needs help from google. It doesn't happen.
There was a point when a Google Pagerank was the only factor taken into account for a link sale. Yahoo Webrank died out. Google set up some really strict rules about how putting up paid links would result in losing PR. Google literally made everything except AdSense on your site look bad. But now they are waning. That could be taken as a good sign or a bad sign.
Traditional SEO was highly focused on building links through the mass distribution of low quality content, forum comments, and online directories - among many other techniques. However, the search engines want their users to get the very best answers to their questions, and this means they need to combat spam and poor quality content.
On this note of Google dictatorship, have you heard of the documentary that Josh Bachynski is making? It's called "Don't Be Evil". You can find it on youtube. He brings up some very good points. -Joshua Sturgill
So you agree that Google should be showing the original posters useless crap site at the top of the search result?
Google has the power to make or break a business at a whim and they are not regulated by anyone. They have a lot more power than most people realize. Virgie
I discover it truly stressing that such an expansive information base can be developed without even the client knowing. I imagine that Google as a web index for all ought to advise more clients that they are putting away every inquiry that is being performed. Is it right that one organization has such a great amount of control on the web that it can adequately make a contender vanish on the off chance that it needs… ? Must say google is surely almost a monopoly, we have to stay with it and learn from it. we have to maintain and retain it. All things considered, that is the thing that Google is doing and is escaping with it. The universally adored web search tool now possesses the world's most famous blogging apparatus.
