Hi Guys, Want to know what is the best way to research domain names. I am new to this whole thing and appreciate your guidance. I have a tech support business (software troubleshooting, backup/restore, virus removal etc). I want to know if I should research all possible search terms and then come up with a domain name that closely matches to those terms OR I should settle on a general domain name like KansasTechSupport.com and then come up with search terms that attracts visitors? Let me know pl. AK.
If you're expecting direct type-ins from users, you should use a domain name that is easy to remember and spell. If you're picking the domain exclusively for SEO reasons, you should try to get a keyword or two in there.
You may want to check out this article on the topic: https://econsultancy.com/blog/65696-do-exact-match-domains-still-work-as-an-seo-tactic/ . EMD (exact match domains) do not hurt you but in the end it comes down to the quality of the content. If you went with your KansasTechSupport.com it would have your area and what you do in it. I personally believe that is awesome. Do you have a content strategy in place to make it a valuable site?
when it comes to selecting domain name you have two approaches 1 is branding 2 is targeting if you want to build a brand name you can think and create a brand name and go to any web hosting service and keep trying entering names you like if they are available and go the best one u think 2nd if you targeting people who want help with the service you supply go with a keyword domain that direct navigate to your site once everything done for that you need optimize keyword and better way to reach people ..it all up to you..hope bit helped..
thank you all. getting some clarity now. Not really branding. My primary focus is to boost traffic. I guess I should look for domain names with key words in them. Thank you Iteachblogging for that link. very informative. btw, I do not have a content strategy yet. have another related question. Is there a tool to find related key words? For example, tech support & virus removal are two of the things that I want to narrow down to. I am hoping there is a tool that can give me the related keywords for these two search phrases. is there one?
If you have a company use its name.. Otherwise you can think of an INTERESTING domain name with your keyword (or a partial keyword!) in the domain name!
The perfect choice would be a good domain with a keyword in it and that's also easy to remember and short. If you plan a big marketing campaign for branding, then you could just pick a cool unique name and try to make it famous but it's not so easy.
keywords on domain help! but its only onpage part! I already saw some site that have no keywords on his domain! but still traffic his site are quite huge 20k uv perday! of course, the link are quite heavy so, my point is! keywords on domain or not it doesn't matter
In some cases thing like that matter. Web-sites which have keywords in domain name are more likely go get higher is the search results
As suggested above branding and targeting are two important term while choosing a domain name.Branding is important but more important is to target your audience and for that its important to use keyword that people search for the service.Once your targeting audience starts building traffic. The brand itself get promoted.
If it's a legitimate business, I would go with the company name in the .com ext. for branding purposes. You'll target all the keywords through your content/anchor text/etc.
