I've been into E-mail marketing for a while but I'm about to upscale and I'm looking for a free/cheap program to do that with. I'm not really into paying monthly fees for mail chimp etc. If someone could point me in the right direction for a nice program with a one time payment it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Well there is a way to set up your own email service system on your server, but it requires a lot of technical work to get started and maintain. It is definitely recommended to go this route as a monthly subscription service can amount to a substantial sum over time (as your list grows).

However I'm satisfied with AWeber for now. GetResponse is one of the cheaper options if all else fails :)

I would recommend getting your own email server, you can use a VPS hosting or a Dedicated Server if it is in your budget.

If you have your own server, then you might want to check

I have personal experience with OpenEMM only, it is quite a painful one, but probably mostly because we are running Windows servers and OpenEMM makes every effort not to work there :D
But if you are on *nix, it may be just fine. However, it is heavy on resources, so no super-cheap VPS would do it.

Yes I do face this issue as well. My current service provider (AWeber) is strict, so it is important to always backup your lists. GetResponse is more lax, but these subscription based providers are not viable long-term options.

Have a look into listwire its free. But Im pretty sure your going to have to deal with ads. If this is your online business I would look into a paid service as it is more reliable.

I use mandrill - you get a truckload of free emails and when you start paying it's a pittance. You have to code the front end but there are samples and it's easy.

In my personal experience, Aweber and GetResponse are the best e-mail marketing autoresponders. I never had any problems with them.. Also the support is very easy to contact. Newbie-friendly & efficient. You should give it a try!

I would suggest you to set your own mail server that efficiently work according to you. You should try various subscription based providers in your budget.
