Google sometimes has old backlink/pagerank data on some of its datacenters. Its probably just a switch to a datacenter that has old data.

    It should correct itself.

    Use this http://www.marketleap.com/publinkpop/default.htm

Did your SERP rankings drop as well? Hopefully you're seeing different data center also. Did you stop building links in the last few weeks/months?

google is terrible for checking backlinks because it only shows you a small portion.

    use yahoo linkdomain:www.yoursite.com.

it will tell you all links coming into your site

like oseymour said google is terrible at showing you the backlinks for a site. Use yahoos link:www.example.com

it shows a much more accurate, up to date selection of links compared to google.
