Im switching over to a dedicated server and i have 3 drives to choose for my server (i have several wallpaper sites) 2TB 7.2K RPM 600GB 10K RPM 120GB SSD since i use space a lot i am thinking of the 2TB 7.2K RPM, what do you guys think ?
What's the sort of daily traffic (requests for image files) you have on the entire dedicated server? And what's the total disk space required for all the images?
Why im changing is because i just filled up my 120GB SSD and the traffic incresse every day, 10K views and going up as i add images.
In terms of performance 120GB SSD is better than 2TB 7.2K RPM and 10k RPM. But if you cant get a better SSD drive i advice you to go with 10k RPM since its faster than 7.2RPM
Though the 120GB SSD may be a faster drive, for traditional hosting services you wouldn't much notice any difference in comparison to a SAS drive. What kind of software are you running on the server? Is it read/write intensive? (SSD Drives have a limit to Read/Writes before they die). In the end, the 10K RPM SAS drives will take you a lot further than an SSD would. For example, I never run SSDs unless I am running them in a Raid-10 Hot-Swap, in case of drive failure.
