Vbulletin Forum Posts Plugin For Wordpress?

Hi all,

I looked in Google but all I found is bits, no plug-in to download for what I want. I'd just like to know if there is one that basically displays the latest threads in the forum, that I could add in my sidebar.

Or if there is an alternative such as hardcoding the code - I would really like this as it would help improve popularity of my forum a lot.

 

I'm pretty sure it can just be done with an RSS widget, have you tried that yet? I want to do this, too.

This function is built into VBulletin. You do not have to install anything, all you have to do is enable it in the VB control panel and then enter the code on the site you want the post to appear on.

The feature is called the "External Data Provider" See this link for more information - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=158895

Once you set it up, every time the web page is refreshed it pulls information from the data provider. This is an example of how I am using it - http://www.survivalforum.tv/ That is a simple html page. In the left column is a section called "Latest Active Forum Threads" It pulls the latest active threads from certain forum sections straight from my main forum. You can even pick which forum sections you want the recent post to be pulled from.

The scripting is a little confusing, but once you get it set up you do not have to change anything else. That survival forum.tv has been pulling the latest post from my forum for 6 months. At one time I had 3 portal sites pulling the most recent post from the forum.

But the feature you are looking for is already built into VBulletin, just enable it, change the settings to what you want, and add the script to the other site. Everything else is automatic.

He is entirely accurate. The problem with using a plugin for this sort of thing is similar to using a plugin to merge login routines. Things get updated entirely too often and stuff breaks.

Ok, where can I download said plugin to test it out? I would like to think that is open sourced given how you have to go about coding that.

Actually, I am not even sure I can test that. I have already moved all my clients over to xenforo. If you want 5 bucks a whack or something you should perhaps drop it on codecanyon or sell it on your own website.

A few suggestions, make the buttons editable from the admin visually but short of that if it works it works. I would be happy to help you sell it actually. Keep in mind, it only saves folks a few minutes for the most part. The display markup there is trivial and the logic already exists to make that. It has simply been wrapped in some wp logic.

I am still a tad stumped here. All you have to do is make this in wp framework but you are still using code from VB. You can do this by dropping a block of stuff into a text widget. The manner in which you automate this is what makes it a wp plugin.

Not trying to be difficult either. I like the idea but from a dev. perspective its seems to be a bit of a pain in the ass to keep updated.

Would it be accurate that you are providing the pre-existing vb code in a text widget basically but adding some additional CSS to make it not look crazy in a sidebar?

and actually, I suspect you would make lot more money doing far more interesting things(since you seem capable of doing so) by letting that out into the wild for free and charging people for services that are a bit less tangible or scarce.
