The news commentators seem to be pointing to weather bringing the plane down catastrophically, before a mayday signal could be sent or life jackets put on, etc. One theory is a massive lightning strike.
Last I heard was that sonar may have identified the wreckage at the bottom of the sea. I suspect that they will have it shortly.
I am from Malaysia and I am dazzled by the 3 Malaysian plane crashes that all happened in the same year. Statistics show that civil aviation transportation is much safer than cars, buses and other road vehicles. MH 370 was never found yet, with the most popular theories stating that it deviated from its original route and continued along the Indian Ocean. MH 17 was reportedly shot down by a BUK anti-aircraft missile manufactured by Russia. Since the crash site of Air Asia plane QZ 8501 was just discovered by Indonesian authorities, we are yet to know the cause of the crash until the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder have been recovered from the seabed.
