Create a Website offering your services, and strike up some good testimonials. Then head over to the Black Hat Forum's Selling Section, pay $30 to post there, and create a Thread outlining your services and slap on a hefty price tag. Give some members a free review product to show them what you have got, and after getting positive replies, off you go!

I think that's where the problem with this forum is and honestly, who can blame them? When you come here and see that the majority of the responses are broken English writers fighting over a gig that pays $2 per 500 words, what kind of quality can someone ready to pay $10 to $100 per article honestly expect?

"Hello sirs im ready to taek over project"
    "I will write for u"
"I will have this task inbox pls"

When a quality client comes here and sees crap like that, it's no wonder most of the quality clients have been scared away. The majority of what we're left with are people still trying to replicate Bum Marketing from 2006. It got so bad around here, I almost started posting on Postloop before I started doing web dev work.

How about offering your works to SEO companies. They're always need fresh and original contents regularly. Try Find local SEO companies in every city (just Google it) and Contact Them one by one. Offer Them your Service along with your portofolios. Once you get one of them put trust in you there will be orders like a clockwork. Try Your luck.

Thanks @Kishore Ganesh and @riching for your inputs.
How would you precisely suggest calling these companies? Cold (telephone) calling? Emailing? I guess cold calling doesn't work as effectively now because it's becoming somewhat obsolete. I haven't heard anyone from my circle having any luck with it though some folks have hit a couple of good clients on occasion. As for emailing, I believe most of your success with it depends on the way you pitch. Dry, monotonous and panoptic messages seldom have any impact on prospects; they're mostly sent to spam. That's why I figure they should have a personal touch and include details about your service that cater for and focus on the specific needs of their recipients. In any case, I'm asking you about how one can do it on an individual level. Either way, if you work with a team, you can experiment with multiple techniques.

I always find my writers on text brokers. Usually the content isn't that great and I have to clean it up, but i can do that very quickly and it pays off. have you tried that?

I always hear the rates offered there are pretty gloomy. I haven't really marketed myself so much on forums and checked out any content mills yet. However, I'm connected with some writers who are active in these places and they delegate some work to me from there time and again.
Have you contacted and hired writers directly? How has it worked out for you?

    Greetings!

If you believe that you have that skill in writing efficiently for varied clients, I suggest you advertise using newspapers or magazines. You have to spend money to make money.

Another option is to come up with a relevant feature article and contribute to a local publication. Strike a deal that they allow you put a note below your article that mentions your skill as a content-writer.

    God bless. :)

The work advertised on sites such as Freelancer should not even be considered competition, because as far as I can tell you are not in the market for writing 500 words of unintelligible crap stuffed with out-of-context keywords for a dollar and a bowl of rice. As others have pointed out, a direct approach to potential clients identified by the shortcomings in their own web presences will pay more dividends, despite the fact that it is undeniably a harder slog.

I fully agree with your point of view because that's precisely what I've experienced. Freelance websites and job boards seem worse even than a flea market. I think I've learned my lesson that if you want good or high paying work, you've to identify opportunities by building a strong online presence, directly pitching potential clients and making them aware what they will lose if they don't maintain the standard of content on their websites. Well, it's definitely harder but then there is no such thing as a free lunch. Success is always directly proportional to hard and smart work. Some of the biggest advantages are you get paid completely as there's no money lost to middlemen and the market you can penetrate is comparatively much larger.

Getting recurring clients that would provide several orders is each writer biggest problem. On DotWriter , a newly launched writing platform we try to tackle this problem by attracting clients for you. That means that you can write on custom requests but also submit any other articles you may have and have those articles sold in time. There are many buyers who want to make sure what they are buying is 100% unique and quality content. That's why on DotWriter an editor approved each and every article prior to being listed on the market.

Feel free to give it a look and drop me a PM for any questions.

    Best,
    Peter

    Specialization!
This applies to every job, anywhere, today. Specialists have their name and history, and in most cases are approached by the customer. Yes, it is hard to make a name for yourself these days BUT it is not impossible.

I have spent many hours on the popular freelance sites and my opinion is that the market is simply overpopulated. That being said, most of the writers have general to no knowledge and just wing it. You can't expect good pay if you offer fitness and tech articles. Everyone with some brainz will know you won't write good content on either of these topics. If you, however, become the MASTER OF FITNESS...well...you get my point.

Pick a niche of a niche of a niche and become one of the better writers in it. The target is to be sought-after, rather than seeking clients.
