What makes your online business successful?

What is it about your business that makes it so successful?

I suppose a website has to be simple to use, useful for the visitor.

My approach is: you have to offer a solution. It has to be simple, it has to be practical and the user mustn't get lost in the details.

Depends on what niche you operate in. If it's affiliate i would say dedicated work over a long period of time will eventually show results.
If you're selling something, always being available even on weekends and answer customers questions is a big plus.

    I expect more profound responses.

I am not talking about SEO, but the business success: what makes a business model successful - what do your users see?

I am striving to provide solutions instead of mere content. People want solutions to their problems.

People also want abundance: nothing is ever enough.

I also think one has to make user experience enjoyable, full of pleasure.

Find the article online about the power of three. It's has something to do with giving at least 3 options for users to choose from (for instance: bronze, silver, gold or free, gold, premium, etc.). Users appreciate options and choices. The more (to a degree) the merrier.

A pristine, clean design is vitally important, too. There are so many good sites out there that get no traction, not because they are not offering anything of a value, but because of their poor design.

    qwikad, true :)

But I'm thinking more about on-site characteristics...

    like...

    ...have a short, clear message
    ...reflect value
...have a brand name that people can remember easily
    ...attractive design
    ...easy call to action

Good, quality and unique content which answers to people problems
SEO (even some basic knowledge will be OK)
determination and consistency, if you have blog and post from time to time you won't succeed...

Being able to connect with my audience everyday. It only takes a few minutes of my time and it costs me nothing.
Also looking for new ways to expand business. Even though it can be a pain weeding out all the crap that's out there, finding that one thing that works is worth it.

I would say an excellent customer service. Apart from that a nice organized website providing clear idea of what your business is and providing complete & detailed information which will certainly be successful for one's business.

What makes my "business" successful is high quality products, low prices, fast shipping and friendly customer service.

My "website" likely could do better, though I believe that it is simple in design, no-nonsense, and just what an IT guy wants to see, which is products without a sales pitch. But, I have doubts... :)

So many cliche basic answers here. Clearly, almost no-one is reading my post!

jrbiz, good points there. Especially with the "no nonsense" :)

Simplicity is among the key factors.

There has to be a key suggestive issues and perhaps one shouldn't bother the visitor with too many things on the first page, right?

You have to put yourself in the shoes of the consumer or the people who will be looking using whatever service you offer, go through other websites and then through your own and get a feel of what is lacking. Also boosting your SEO is absolutely essential, offering the best service in the world doesnt mean anything until people are aware of it's existence.

All the business are same, not only the online business but also applicable to the offline business
Customer is looking for good quality, low price, good function and good service (including before sales service and after sales services). As long as the above mentions can fulfill the customer satisfaction, then the business is moving towards success

Yeah, indeed. But it's hard to put yourself in their shoes. One is always biased, influenced by the own perspective.
It's a bit hard to drop it an put yourself in the client's place.

More so: I'd be a single person, not a representative niche. My question is what would be good for the majority of let's say potentially 100,000 monthly visitors.

What would nearly 100,000 people want from a website?

I think what really makes our business successful is customer service. Because nowadays, almost everything can be duplicated, except experience. So, I believe that great customer service is key to success in business.

I don't think boosting SEO is a concern at all. Yes, SEO is great because you get free targeted traffic but when Google decides to penalize you, you'll start from square one again.

You can't really put yourself in their shoes, you have to test, not to assume. Maybe survey them to see what's missing. What works on other websites might not work with yours. That's a risky assumption to think what other people have, you should have on your website too.

    Just my 2 cents.
