Slightly Concerned!

OK, First of all what a great site. I do have a concern about this "Like" business though. I have a couple of companies which I'm in the process of setting up and would like to make use of the contests for some Logo's and other future designs. I've been looking at various posts (by NON established members) throughout the day (Some pretty good in my opinion) and they have hundreds of views but no likes. Are people scared to like posts in case admin think they're just liking to help that individual and might get banned or do people genuinely just not like the posts. I'm also a bit sceptical thinking it's purposely made difficult to get established so people buy a premium membership.

Yes it is a great site, and the "likes" business is a way of trying to keep it that way by discouraging poor quality posts, likes aren't hard to get, I seem to get them on a daily basis.
Some people might be scared to give likes, they have no reason to, unless they are just liking crap in an effort to get someone established, I'm certainly not scared to give them when I see something I like.
Just share your opinions and the likes will come.

They raised it. I got two likes and could buy/sell/trade now I have to get three, Lol. But that said... people like it when you quote them and tell them good job but mean it when you do it. Give them a reason to like your posts.

    Malky66 has it figured out.

Thanks CM! number 6 is a good enough reason on it's own. My concern is because of the posts I've seen that haven't got any likes after LOADS of views, for quite a valid point, or giving some good information. I totally accept that this is what I have to do, and I will keep going until I succeed but I don't want to fight a losing battle. I like the link though, it's made me think and from now on I will be positive. Thanks @Content Maestro!!

You're welcome SC. Well, actually the 'likes' is a sort of hit-and-miss business. When someone likes a post, it's NOT necessary the person will give that post a 'like'. That's precisely the reason you've seen posts with a high view count which really add value and contribute some very useful insights without a single 'like'.
But then again that's no reason to be discouraged. Keep on posting useful and interesting stuff and the 'likes' will come in no time. The funny part is some users get all their first 3 'likes' in less than 24 hours without really posting anything useful while contributive and value-adding users have to wait for weeks together to get even a single one. I think it all depends on the mindset with which you start. Positive attitude, perseverance and patience are the keys. Points 3,4 and 5 from what I've written there specifically deal with this issue.

Anyway, I appreciate that you've started with the right mindset. Best of luck for the 'likes'.:) Hope you have those soon.

Like is a good way to identify if your comment or response is helpful. Some may abuse it but Forum admins would definitely know that and they have monitoring for that if I am not mistaken.

I think you're mistaken, you could use the BST before the forum changed over to xenforo (when the likes system came into place) but since then it's always been 3 likes to be established.
We can all help to keep the forum free of like traders and like abusers, if you see anyone trading likes or liking obvious dumb stuff just report it, it's not just the responsibility of the mods to keep the forum clean, we should all do our bit.
