I thought of turning a CPU into a server. But here i want to know, what is the minimum internet speed requirement to run the hosting for like 50,000 daily traffic?
Before doing that, call your ISP and make sure that running a server on your home connection is in compliance with their T&C. Most of the home ISPs don't allow doing that.
DING DING ! YEP - They will make you UPGRADE TO business class which = $$$$ , so you might as well rent a box
Hello, Yeah i thought of getting a FTTH for business. They come with many a plans like 10mbps, 20mbps, 50mbps and 100mbps. So, which will be better to have, for like 50,000 traffic a day.
Can u tell us prices that they are charging for 10mbps, 20mbps, 50mbps and 100mbps? This can be a deciding factor whether you should get a dedicated box with some hosting provider OR should use your home server.
Whaaat? $1382/mo is a HUGE server bill to run a site with 1.5m/mo hits (+ your electric bill + your home computer depreciation)!! You can easily achieve it with an USA based dedicated server costing around $300-400/mo.
That is what i am asking, which plan will be suite the best. That price is for 100mbps. 10mbps and 20mbps cost less.
Well...it's against forum rules to change a thread to a sales discussion. But feel free to PM me and I can help you further.
Hello gigapros, well i am not posting here for any hosting and server requirements. I already have a managed dedicated hosting for my sites. But i simply want to know what internet speed will be best suitable for a traffic like 50,000 a day. I think you don't get the thread!!
It will depend on the size of the hits....for example 50k hits for a simple 10kb html page will be nothing as compared to 50k hits to a heavily modded wordpress site of 2MB page size. Do you have any estimate of avg page size that you will be serving? Another issue is...if your page have 10 images, those may count as a hit to web server. However, it will still be a unique visitor for you. So, when we are talking at the magnitude of 1.5 million hits/mo, it would be helpful to know these parameters too: page views/mo and avg page size.
I know....but in these days of high speed internet and responsive webdesign, things are pushing up gradually.... :O
Actually THESE DAYS - If you are not using a BOOTSTRAP / And or Theme Optimization Engine ( Woo / Genesis ) or DO Not have lighting fast pages and speed, You are not worthy, so I would kindly disagree with you Responsive is made and designed to be light weight and fast Vs traditional <tables>
Yeah i agree with sundaybrew. Not all users, internet speed are fast. You have to take care of your users/visitors that has low speed connection. Compressed CSS, JS, Images and Cache pages are the fine option to load faster the site.
As others have said, you will be much better off Colocating your server at an ISP. You're talking under $100/mo. and up.

Best course to follow is what Mia and others already suggested you. If the machine you plan to use is a home desktop machine then you should consider renting a dedicated server instead. For ~100$ a month you can get a pretty good dedicated server and spare the computer you were planning to use and make a good use of it on something else.
Totally agree. Rent a server always cheaper more than a homemade dedicated server. We need a good connection all times, also power should be work 24/24 per day
