That's an excellent idea. I think anyone who dislikes this change should contact them and say so. Maybe if they get enough negative feedback they'll see some sense.

    Hmm

I have to ask before everyone jumps off the edge of the building......

Has anyone run testing to see if CTR% is down??

Google usually does things to help publishers increase revenues.. not earn less, with the exception of smart pricing but hey they have to be nice to advertisers.

Google knows images convert better and perhaps to them this looks more like an image and will help increase CTR%...

Remember most of you are biased, as the changes were made to your site, without your approval so to speak

However your visitors may or may not care....

It's probably too early to tell as these have only just started to appear in the last day or so.

I haven't seen one on any of my sites (yet) but I have seen them when I've been testing a page on my own computer.

I don't like it at all.

The solution will be to insert little stupid icons on our sites, who look alike with the stupid "G" icon... this way, the visitors won't know very easy when a block of links is from Google ads, or they are normal links...

For certain services or products, being associated with Google would certainly be a positive thing. I'm not so sure it will have the same effect regarding advertising though!

Everyone can dream I guess ;)

I was pretty surprised to see the new format on my page too. It looks quite ugly, but I hope it will not make the CTR decrease!!

Anyone had any success contacting Google on this issue? If not, I may shoot them an email myself.

Hmmmmmm, I haven't seen this on any of the sites I've been on, is it a US thing? (Eg it only looks that way for US browsers).

it will be ridiculous if they make it permanent. even by putting images near ads they are breaking their own TOS.

    I know this sounds crazy

But there is some Google employee sitting monitoring the company email looking for the first one to ask about the new changes so they can reply with 100% honesty......

Ohh sorry I was day dreaming in your response ;)

The employee is probably sitting watching this thread dying to chime in. Heck where is Viso? I think he works for Google, lol.

As you said Sem maybe this would be a move to improve CTR but it does look really bad on some sites. This should be interesting to see what happens.

Due to the inconsistency I assume that this is some sort of beta test to determine whether the new images affect your CTR. I doubt this is permanent.

    Yet.

I just hope that if they decide to do this, they give us an option to "not choose this one"...

They also started new campaigns for referrals.

I've seen this many times on my site:
